fitness training hockey
Is endeavor fitness worth the money for hockey training?

The endeavor fitness in Sewell New Jersey like i wanna do hockey specific training there and wondering if its worth the money

I don’t know that fitness centre. But ask their personal trainers if any have experience with developping a workout plan for a competive athlete who wants to do better.
Based on that answer, it should give you an accurate assessment.

advanced fitness training techniques
help with running and leg pain…?

Ive started training for the army, been training for bout 3 months now and ive gone from nothing to running the full distances and what not, (although i need to still get faster), but round the bottom of my calf on my right leg feels really tight and has the same sensation as when you sprain your ankle… also the back of my left leg, right at the bottom of the calf, its fine to walk on now, but i had the same feeling in it, but when i touch it it feels like its bruised

I was just wondering if any other runners has the same problem or what causes it (poor technique etc) and how to help it

a bit of extra info, its fine normally, but it hurts after runs (both short and long distance) and long hill walks as well, and i end up limping for the rest of the day

cheers in advanced

plus any other general running/fitness tips for press ups, sit ups, faster times etc much appreciated lol :D

As I sit here, my shin is hurting too – left hand side, at the front though I know what has caused that -a 23 mile cross country with 3500 ft ascending and descending caused overstretching and overuse of the shin muscles, then of course since it was a race I forgot the advice to stop and go home and I ran the next 10 miles on it… silly me since I struggled to walk a mile yesterday. That is enough of that, though it is relevant to your question

When you run your muscles work in pairs – in your case we are considering the shin and calf muscles. If one muscle is stronger than the other then it can overpower the opposing muscle, this overpowered muscle has to work harder to keep things even and can pull on the tendons, and also get tired. As it gets tired it becomes less efficient and so the problem gets worse – and this is what happened to me at the weekend. My calf’s worked well to get up the hills but they overpowered the shins causing a strain and sore muscle

During normal training you should increase the intensity of your runs slowly and this allows both muscles to develop in tandem, so increase the distance a bit or the hills a bit but not both together (I forgot that and did a long hilly run of course). This could be one of the causes of the problems – you increased things a bit too quickly. This commonly causes pain in the shins and are called shin splints – basically overuse of the shin muscles before they have strengthened.

The second cause also has a little to do with the number of miles you are running and for that look at your trainers. Trainers are the root cause of many injuries but also the solution. When did you last change them and where did you go to but them? Each trainer is slightly different from other models and are designed for different styles of runners – get the wrong one and they can twist your legs in funny way. If you have been running for 3 months this could point to a gradual twist that has got worse and worse. If you haven’t had new trainers before your running I would go to a specialised running shop with the ones you currently run in and get new ones. Similarly running in worn out (in running terms – 500 miles) trainers the cushioning breaks down and again can cause slight twisting in the foot which over time can cause pain in the ankles, legs, knees or hips. So second thing to look at is to see if your trainers need changing.

OK this gives you a couple of ideas what is wrong – increasing too much too quickly or new trainers and this should cover most shin problems. What you want to know of course is what to do to get back running.

How does the sore legs affect you? For example, do they ease off when you are moving or get worse? Are they more sore in the morning or after a run?

If the problem is heading towards shin splints then your pain eases as you move about. This is because the movement gently stretches the muscles and warms them up making them more flexible and so the exercise is easier. If this is the case then follow the RICE principles – Rest, Ice, Compress and Elevate.

Rest for a few days – complete rest where you walk as little as you can. This gives the muscles time to heal
Ice – after a run pop an ice bag wrapped in a towel on the sore area to reduce swelling and ease things. You can also take Ibuprofen to help with this
Compress – get a tubigrip bandage to wear while it is sore
Elevate – after a run keep your feet up a bit

Before you go out you want to stretch your shins and calf muscles. If one is not so flexible it will pull on the opposing muscle causing an overuse injury. Also do a longer warm up then normal. When you get back again, stretch again to keep things flexible.

After you have rested for say 4 days – no running, little walking, then ease back into running, try a run half the length of a normal training run and if it feels OK afterwards then the next run try 3/4 length and build up to normal distance. Do these recovery runs slower than normal – easy runs. If it is still sore after one of these runs, then go back to another couple of days rest and start again.

You sound quite an active person and while you are recovering you can maintain your fitness with cycling or swimming

Any other tips…. running out of typing ideas now – ask again for anything specific and I’ll see what I can think off.

Now am off to apply a heat pack to the sore muscles (that can help recovery as well) before an easy afternoon and an evening sauna and spa session instead of a run – rest isn’t all a bad thing!

fitness training records
I want to enter the Army ranked as E-3 and i don’t understand this one way and there are three things?

Complete the Basic Training Task List-(what is this and how do i do it)
Record Army Physical Fitness Test-(what is this and how do i do it)
Refer 1 person who joins the Army-(what is this and how do i do it)

Complete the Basic Training Task List – The BTTL is 10 different tasks that you will learn while you are waiting to ship to BCT. Some of the tasks include military time, land navigation, and first aid. Your recruiter will teach you these classes and you will then be tested on them. Overall pretty easy and very attainable.

Record Army Physical Fitness Test – The Record APFT consists of 2 minutes of pushups and situps, and a 2-mile run. The minimum score for 17-20 year old males is 42 pushups, 53 situps, and 15:54 on the run. Very attainable if you are in shape.

Refer 1 person who joins the Army – Find one of your friends to join the Army, pretty much it :)

personal fitness training courses
Help me name my gym.?

Hello all,

In about 6-12 months I fully hope to be opening up my own gym, well maybe not gym in exact terms, more of a focused personal training/nutritionist business, also to possibly include massages. (haven’t decided if I should go for that training yet.) I’m working on all the business stuff as much as I can now. But, I need your help…..what do you think of these names? Keep in mind that all of these names will be followed by “Fitness” or “Personal Training”.

Core / Core Strength

iFit/iGym (play on iPod, along with the millions of other things with “i” in front of it.)

Platinum Iron

Break Away

Evolution

Muscle Fusion

IronFlex

Ragnarok (Norse mythology)….If you look it up and think about it, I believe it can be incorporated into something like this.

What do you guys think of those?

Feel free to add your own names, eventually I will vote the best, with all of your help and input of course!

I would like Gymbo’s. Call it that, and then I will go.
