Folding Bike – Giant Halfway…worth it?
Has anyone had experience with one of these bikes?
http://nycewheels.com/giant-halfway-folding-bike.html
I read a few reviews on google and I was debating on buying it.
I’m a college student and I kind of wanted a bike to ride to school just to get a bit of daily exercise… but the thing is… bikes get stolen a lot at the university…even when they’re chained to bike racks… and if the bike’s not stolen.. people tend to steal bike parts.. >_>
So I thought it would be nice to have a bike that could compact into a size that I could carry into class or something… but what worries me is exactly how “compact” these things get and whether it’s awkward to carry around. Also, how long does it take to fold down one of these bikes?
I went to the local bike store in my area and they have a “Giant Halfway” folding bike for about $400 when normally it would be $500. That was the only brand of folding bikes they had. Any personal advice/reviews on the bikes? Thanks!
Well I own a halfway.. Its a cool little town bike. I wouldn’t do any long rides on it. but they are well made.
But there’s always a but. If I had a choice. I would buy a Dahon. They should be able to order these at your local shop… But then again my giant has been in use for a few years… still works great

Preparing for the preseason/offseason ahead?
Preparing for the long preseason and offseason ahead?
In a few months or so, we will have our spring season for my school’s men’s soccer team and training throughout the summer months. I am currently around 130lbs. My question is what weight should I be at? And I’m also kind of skinny and would like to put on some meat. What are some ways I can bulk up and get ready for the season? As far as fitness, what should I be doing. I also want to ask, I feel like I have lost my touch with soccer since I’ve been so busy, I was wondering how to make that passion stronger, I still have it, but it’s been a whiler since I’ve touched a ball or watched a game.
You should defintly start running start small and build your way up. Also do some sprinting for speed. I would advice lift some weights. In your in a high school they should have a weight room accessible to students, dont go out and get a gym membership if you dont aready have one. Go to your local field and shoot on net with another teamate as goalie. Also remember to eat healthy.

Help with GF/CF Diet and Finding an Autism DR. with Medi-cal?
I want to start my son on the GF/CF diet. The thing is I don’t know what to buy at the grocery store. I have foodstamps to use. Does anyone have a list they can send me of what I can buy. also I have medi-cal and want to find a autism doctor in Merced that accepts it. The pediatrics doctor that accept it don’t know anything about autism. My son has had a seizure, rashes, pneumonia, all with in 3 weeks time. I tell the doctors i think its related to his autism and I think his shots do as well and they act like I’m crazy. I really want a doctor that knows about the GF/CF diet as well as the methods to detox my son from toxic metals etc… But cant find any that accept medi-cal in Merced Ca. Any advice????
Thanks
Theresa
I live in New York City and I have an autistic child. Of course, insurance law is different in every state and it could just be possible that in California, you will find an “autism doctor” who will take insurance (and if you do, and it happens after the question is decided, PLEASE come say so in the “comments” section because a lot of us are packing up and moving to California), but in my experience calling every DAN doctor in a 3-4 state radius from here, the cold facts are what they are:
1) They are painfully expensive
2) They don’t take insurance
3) They don’t do payment plans
I would suggest you check the DAN list and call every doctor who has the degrees you need (if you are going to need prescriptions, you might have to have an MD for example), and ask them if they take your insurance.
http://www.autismwebsite.com/practitioners/within_states.asp
If at the end of the day, you can’t find someone who will take insurance, you may have to bite the bullet, pick someone whose rates are better than others, and just accept that this is all coming out of your pocket. If it means anything to you, I found that once I stopped trying to make the cost work out on paper and just took the money and my daughter to the doctor, it was a lot less horrendous than the math on paper said it would be. And believe me, I am not by a long shot rich.

beside fireman, police, and arm
A few gov’t jobs that require you to be fit that aren’t considered firemen, police, or armed workers are correctional officers, prison wardens, park rangers, state park managers, physical education teachers, foresters, forest ranger/technicians, geologists, certain inspectors (mine, elevator/boiler, Department of Transportation outdoor workers), some forensic scientists, grounds workers, and many maintenance workers. A lot of exciting and interesting career choices there!

Foot Pain? Help?
So I started my very hard P.E. class two days ago and now, I have foot pain in my right foot. Now a quick description of the pain/where it is: the pain is in the arch area of my foot (between heel and toes), hurts when I strectch my foot out or bend it to walk or if I press down on it. Will this go away within two days if im off my feet. Also does anything help with it/ help it heal, aka soaking in warm water or something to that effect.
One random question also..When your in pain and take ibprofen then exercise is it bad for you to do 5 days a week for 30 mins (joint pain/muscle pain)?
the class is harder than any workout I have ever done in my life
you have the same problem I have …cant remember the term for it but,you have stretch the ligaments in your arch to the breaking point, this is what my Dr. said do…go to the store and get you one of the little rubber balls out of the gumball machine(yeah i know sounds stupid) but this works for me. put it on the floor and while sitting roll the ball under your foot front to back with minimal pressure then rotate with ice and heat 15 min for each while foot is elevated. only apply as much pressure as comfortable to you no more. also, its may take a while for it to heal.
your question about ibuprofen…how often do you take the meds and how much at one time??? it stays in your system longer than 30 minutes. and yes it can hurt you. look up side effects of it on the net.

10 day brown rice detox diet?
I’ve heard of the diet, i believe it’s from the book “you are all sandaku” by oshawa. I’m not sure of the details.. does anyone know what i’m talking about?
Yes, its part of the Macrobiotic diet. You do a 10 day organic brown whole rice detox. I’m actually on my third day. Its crazy how fast you start to lose the weight. My first day I lost 3 lbs. I know it wasn’t from having to go to the bathroom cause I only had to urinate once that day.
Macrobiotics is the same diet that Madonna and Gwyneth Palrow made famous.

Basic Diet and Fitness Plan?
Im a 5’3 13year old and I weigh 116lbs. I know I am slightly overweight and my main concern is to simply lose around 7-10lbs. My exercise regimen consists of waking up at 5:45 and doing a free run on Wii Fit for 20 minutes. Afterward I usually do the hula hoop activity or strength training excercises such as jackknifes and pushups. For breakfast I always have 1 bowl of original Special K cereal and a banana, and for lunch I have an orange, some carrot sticks, half of a sandwich plain (I’m not into condiments), and a low-fat yogurt. Foir dinner I always try to eat as much green vegetables as I can and lean protein as well. I am not involved in sports but when I come home from school play the Wii Fit aerobic excercises. Quite simply, I want to know if I might be able to lose weight by doing this, it can be gradual and any comments would be greatly appreciated. =)
The wii fit does help… but you could change it up a little with work outs as well, you don’t always have to use the wii fit… make the work outs a little challenging to where you sweat a little (i know it sounds gross, but sweat is a sign of burning fat) and fat doesn’t begin to get burned off until 20 minutes of exercise.
Also… try to have little snacks in between meals, and if you are worried about increased calorie intake, then take the banana from the breakfast and save it for a snack, and you can take the carrot sticks, or the orange or the yogurt as a second snack for after lunch. And then make sure that you do not eat dinner too late in the day, try to eat before 5 or 6pm (depending on when you go to bed). The snacking in between meals will help keep up your metabolism and if you eat dinner early (if you do eat late) then you have time to burn off some of the calories that you consumed before you go to bed.

Detox diet question…?
I would like to do a detox diet to become more healthy and to gain more energy. I did some research, but it seems that most of the diets revolve around drinking different varieties of juices and smoothies and very little solid foods. Is there a diet out there that will detox but I wont end up starving myself in the end? I work out a lot, so its impossible to be on a fluid diet and still be able to exercise effectively. Your help would be appreciated!
Detox diets do NOT work. They drop your weight.. but they cause your metabolism to slow and your body to store fat. When you go off the diet, you’ll gain more than you weighed before.. even if you’re eating exactly the same.
When it comes to losing weight, there are 2 ways to do it:
1*) I just want to lose weight.. I don’t care what kind, I just want to see the scale go down.
2**) I want to lose fat and only fat. I don’t want to lose muscle.
1*) Losing weight is much easier than just losing fat, but for many people, this is still their primary goal.. especially very obese people. They just want the scale to drop. If that’s your goal, I would strongly suggest the Weight Watchers diet over all other diets. It’s very effective, easy to do, and proven to be the best overall “lose weight” diet around, over all others. It even won the “Diet Face-Off” at livestrong.com, when all weight loss diets were competing against each other. Read more here: http://www.livestrong.com/diet-face-off/
2**) Losing fat only is much tougher, but.. it’s the ideal way to lose weight. Any time you lose weight, you can only lose muscle, fat or both (water too.. but that’s not true weight). With most “diets”, you are going to lose as much muscle as fat, and usually more. Losing “fat only” is what you want to do if you’re trying to look the best you can for the pool this summer. You definitely want to keep all the muscle you can. Think about 2 guys.. both 5’11 and 180. One has a belly with fat and the other, exact same height and weight, is ripped, with abs and looks like a walking anatomy chart. His goal has been to lose fat.. not weight. The best 2 diets for this are ‘Body For Life’ (http://bodyforlife.com/) and ‘Burn the Fat, Feed the Muscle’ (http://www.burnthefat.com/). Both will yield results at burning fat only. ‘Burn the Fat, Feed the Muscle’ is the better of the two.. as it will even demonstrate how to add muscle while burning fat.. the true secret to getting “ripped”! ‘Body For Life’ can be found at any bookstore. ‘Burn the Fat, Feed the Muscle’ is available online only. It’s a 340 page pdf document created by bodybuilder Tom Venudo (who has only 4% bodyfat and is over 40 years old!). They also have a great member site that you can join for $10 a month here: http://www.burnthefatinnercircle.com . Tom answers your questions himself on that site.. instead of other sites that just give you a host of all the other members offering advice. Both of the diets encourage the same.. eating 6 meals a day (females can opt for 5) and cardio several times a week. Body For Life is a little more geared toward fat burning only though. You won’t gain much muscle.. but if you have muscle already, you can rip up very nicely. ‘Burn the Fat, Feed the Muscle’ is the most work for sure, but will yield the most impressive results of any diet on the market today.
Why so many meals a day? Your body needs a continual supply of glycogen for energy. Eating every 3 hours, the food is digested and directed into cells requiring energy right then. Once the cells have received all the energy they need, the body stores the extra glycogen in your muscles and liver. However, there’s only so mcuh glycogen your body can store. Eating more than you should at any one meal makes extra glycogen now convert to fat. This is why you have to know exactly how many calories you need every day.. and why it’s so important to eat the right amount at every meal. Remember.. 1 pound of fat, is just 3500 extra calories that your body stores. It doesn’t take long to put an extra 3500 calories in your body.
What if I eat a lot less so my body can’t store the extra calories as fat? Even worse.. your body is smart enough to realize that it doesn’t have enough calories it needs for the day (your BMI) and to compensate, it slows down your metabolism, so it doesn’t burn calories as fast. And.. anytime your body is in this fasted state, it takes emergency precautions. It tries to hang on to energy as long as possible, so it quits burning fat for energy altogether and starts tearing your muscles down for energy. Muscle is anabolically active tissue, so this is the easiest place for your body to get needed energy. If you do this day after day, you will become sluggish and tired from a slow metabolism and your body will lose most of its weight from muscle. Some fat will get burned this way too.. but it’s the last to go! Your body will start breaking fat down last, after it has used as much as it can from your muscles!
In summary, the best way to lose weight is burn fat through eating right and then exercising it off. Starving fat doesn’t work.
Good luck!
