I am pregnant with my second child, and have been informed due to my previous history, I will be having a scheduled C-section. My first child was a C-section (after 27 hours of labour), and I was in recovery for quite a while.
I know conventional wisdom to wait to exercise is 6-8 weeks, and am already aware that I will be busy enough with a new baby. HOWEVER, having been a competitive athlete and fitness enthusiast, my life, my mood and any sense of well-being is tied to physical activity. Last time, there was concern I had PPD because of the inactivity (compounded with everything else.
My questions: Are there minor activities one can do moderately increase heartrate or do strength training without compromising the weakened abdominal muscles?
If not, what were your coping mechanisms during the period of recovery?

after my last child (all of mine were C sections) I walked…alot! Mainly on my eliptical machine on the super low setting so it was not stressful. It kept me moving and dropping those prego pounds, plus helped me heal faster. I put baby in the basinet and walked while the sound of the machine swooshing helped my angel sleep. What ever you do, just go easy to start with and you will be back to your old routine before you know it! Good luck!

IsThe Army Weight Control Program and Special Population PT benfecial?
Ok, So I’m on the AWCP for being overweight according to Army standard.
I am required to do physical training every morning from 0600-0700 with the unit.
Then again at 1700-1800 with the overweight/pt failures.
Then again immediately following that from 1800-1900 with my section/platoon.
A typical week for physical fitness is: Mon,Wed,Fri= Run/Cardio days Tues/Thurs=Muscle Failure/Burnout days
So..
Mon,Wed,Fri I am conducting 3x running/cardio..
Tue/Thur I am conducting 3x Muscle failure..
My day starts at 0445 when I get out of bed and I leave the house at around 5:10 in order to get through the traffic..
I am not getting home until roughly 1930-1945…
I am on a strict DIET/Less than 1100 calories a day and all water.
Does anyone else here see this as extremely stressful??
Yes. You should not be doing that much. Once a day, particularly since you are muscle failure stuff, is more than enough. I don’t like how the military runs their physical training programs. I just do my own thing, I get better results, and I actually have time for my body to rest and heal. Unit organized PT is horrible.
