Alissa Cohen Living on Live Foods

"Everybody knows Cohen". As an internationally recognized author, speaker, raw food chef and consultant, Alissa Cohen is a one woman Raw Foodist Enterprise. She has enough clout and name recognition in the "raw foodist" niche to get away with having her website domain be her real name AlissaCohen.com.

Alissa first gained some notoriety from TV appearances promoting her book, "Living on Live Food". The book has been well accepted in North America, Canada, England, Australia, and other English speaking countries. Equipped with her book filled with raw food diet recipes, people might feel better prepared to investigate how to start a raw food diet.

Her book, personal appearances, teaching, and now her website, have continued to keep her raw food mission in the limelight. Alissa’s endeavors are all about an all raw food diet, and eating a raw food diet.

Until recently, Alissa also personally taught or mentored others teaching raw food classes for three levels of certification in her Living on Live Food Program. Cohen also is a restaurateur, and a pioneer in the the Raw Food Restaurant business with her first offering, The Grezzo Restaurant, located in the historic North End of Boston. Grezzo is billed as Boston’s premiere 100% raw organic vegan restaurant.

Alissa Cohen has many passions, all related to healthy living, including her own clothing line, "Live Juicy Eat Raw" made of Fair Trade Organic Cotton.

One thing that is odd about raw food cookbooks, is that there is no cooking involved in preparing raw food meals. Maybe they should be called un-cookbooks, or anti-cookbooks. Another brain twister for some people is why you need to go to the trouble of making raw food look like conventional cooked foods. Maybe it has to do with some notion of haute cuisine, or making raw food more palatable to the masses of non foodists.

New raw foodies may take some time actually getting used to the idea of "raw food cookbooks" and devoting time to raw food recipes, mostly getting by on the staples of raw fruits and vegetables at first. However, once you get your raw foodist stripes and are in a groove, this may be the first raw food cookbook you want to look at buying to have in your kitchen. Follow the tasty looking banner link at the bottom to shop at Alissa Cohen’s website for just about anything related to a rad food diet.

The Alissa Cohen website is also a treat on the eyes, well organized, and packed with useful information. This is the first of the raw food reviews devoted to a multi-faceted raw foodist that has combined passion, some obvious talent, and marketing savvy into several thriving businesses related to the raw food movement. In my secret life Cohen is exactly the way most raw foodists see themselves, living the raw food lifestyle and not shy about telling the world about it.

Super Foods Are in The News

12 super foods

Much attention is being given to the so-called "SuperFoods". What constitutes a Super Food, what are Super Foods, and why might you need or want to consider Super-Foods? There are lots of super food lists circulating around the Internet. Not to confuse the issue, we will try to compile and reload the best information for your perusal here at The Raw Foodist Guide website.

There is the WebMD SuperFood List by the supposed experts…borrriinng! The Wiki Super-Foods list, much better, and actually quite interesting…but let’s err on the side of the raw foodists, the people that are actually known to eat "super-foods". Here we will present a list of David Wolfe’s SuperFoods with short descriptions. Let’s lean towards the guy that spent 10 years of his life traveling the globe and searching out the stuff. But first let’s acquiesce to the capable Wikipedia for the currently accepted definition of SUPERFOODS.

"Superfood" is a term sometimes used to describe food with high phytonutrient content that some may believe confers health benefits as a result. For example, blueberries are often considered a superfood (or superfruit) because they contain significant amounts of antioxidants, anthocyanins, vitamin C, manganese and dietary fiber. However, the term is not in common currency amongst dietitians and nutritional scientists, many of whom dispute the claims made that consuming particular foodstuffs can have a health benefit. There is no legal definition of the term and it has been alleged that this has led to it being over-used as a marketing tool."

The Beginning Steps to Living Independently Healthy

raw food vegan

"Living Independently Healthy", an obvious play on the term Independently Wealthy…but nevertheless, a concept worthy of promoting here online and everywhere else. The health benefits of an all raw foods detox diet are becoming well known as good news tends to travel. The first impression to those centered in convention may be that it sounds a bit odd. This is why we need raw food reviews to get the word out.

Leave it to the leading proponents of raw foodism for simple descriptions that tend to be almost too sensible and somewhat irrefutable when closely considered. Here are some sensible thinking points paraphrased from the noted author and raw foodist, David Wolfe.

Your food choices to a large degree determine your overall well being. Total and complete nourishment is manifested in every aspect of your individual alignment with your highest levels of expression and potential.

Ideally, a diet of "natural organic foods" should be consumed raw. Much research and pure common sense easily demonstrates that living raw food is superior to processed and cooked foods in every way.

Raw living food is the natural delivery system for vitamins, enzymes, co-enzymes, proteins, minerals, glyco-nutrients, and other vital nutritional elements in a natural state. It is difficult to argue, and increasingly impossible to present a valid opposing point of view.

A Raw Living Food Diet is without question "natural", and therefore is the way nature has intended to provide us with life sustaining food.

Culturally, modern society has tried better living through chemistry, The advent of 19th century Allopathic medicine, and the age of petroleum-chemical-based vitamins and minerals has allegedly left generations poisoned in many ways.

Notwithstanding the marvels and advancements of modern Western medicine, new genetically engineered and chemically altered foods, junk foods, convenience foods, and snack foods have ultimately left us as a society full of new chronic diseases, and morbid obesity.

Take pause and simply think about how food and food resources have been altered in just the last 30-40 years. Now is the time to take personal action, and consider reaching back to original raw food resources. You really are what you eat! Seize the moment, and start on a path now to enjoy every aspect of your gift of life by learning about the "benefits of a raw food diet".

Here we will investigate Five Components of Living Raw that will come to the forefront of this website for exploration. It all has to do with cleansing and total detoxification for truly Living Independently Healthy. The five pillars are a Raw Living Diet, Clean Alkaline Water, Aerobic Exercise, Colon Cleansing, and Deep Breathing Oxygen Detoxification. The road to How to Live Independently Healthy is a road less traveled. Preventative health is not the norm, as we live in a knee-jerk world accustomed to reactionary cures to symptoms as they occur.

1. Raw Living Diet

A plant based living raw diet of mostly fresh fruits and vegetables contains digestive enzymes that aid the digestive process. This leaves your body’s own enzymes to regulate metabolic processes. Nearly everyone understands that heating (cooking) foods above 104 to 120 degrees Fahrenheit degrades or destroys important enzymes, minerals, and vitamins. Eating food without enzymes makes digestion difficult and makes no sense. Cooked and processed foods can result in toxicity to the body, and may be the cause of obesity and chronic diseases. Digestive enzymes are a limited resource in your body. Eating cooked foods depletes enzymes and food value.

Natural raw living foods contain beneficial bacteria and other micro-organisms that promote a balanced immune system, aids digestion and a healthy digestive system.  Raw-deit foods are higher in nutrients over any cooked foods. Other well known culprits are processed foods. Foods with chemicals, preservatives, additives, and flavor enhancers are really not food, let alone a food substitute. We have been led to believe that all micro organisms are bad. Just as there are useful antibiotics, our bodies actually harbor and need probiotics to function properly.

Wild foods and organic food is more nutritious and more delicious than domesticated and industrially modified foods. Cooked foods and commercially processed food can actually contain harmful toxins and chronic disease causing agents. The opioid peptides found in cooked foods, are what cause cravings and are believed to be the cause of food addictions. A raw deit has an alkalizing effect on your body and promotes a naturally higher pH level. Most disease thrives in a acid environment. Get your body alkaline with a RawDiet and you will be healthier.

2. Clean Alkaline Water

A fresh alkaline water supply is very important to optimal health. Unfortunately most municipal tap water, and commercial bottled water ends up testing acidic. Excess acidity is a condition that weakens all body systems. Excess acidity forces your body to leach important minerals like calcium, sodium, potassium and magnesium from vital organs. An acid diet results in an acid body. You should have high pH in drinking water, or a source for high pH bottled water.

An acid body can suffer severe and prolonged corrosion. Unchecked, this condition may go undetected for years. Bad and poor quality water will make you sick. Clean alkaline water and proper hydration will make you healthy.

Acidosis can lead to serious problems with vital organs like the liver, heart, and kidneys. You need to avoid acidosis. Acidosis is an extended time in an acid pH state. An acid body is considered a factor in rheumatoid arthritis, diabetes, lupus, tuberculosis, osteoporosis, high blood pressure and most cancers.

One preventative measure is the addition of clean alkaline water to compliment an alkalizing diet. Water is the chemistry of life and accounts fro 70-90% of all organic matter. Just like an alkaline diet, clean high pH water aka "alkaline water" will bring your body chemistry back in balance.

3. Aerobic Exercise

Aerobic exercise definition is exercising that involves or improves the oxygen consumption of the body. Aerobic literally means "with oxygen". This refers to aerobic exercise activities that use lots of oxygen in the energy generating process, or metabolism. The key is to increase your heart rate for extended periods, not exercising as an attempt to build muscle mass (anaerobic exercise is weight or resistance training). In this instance, we are concerned with mostly with aerobic vs anaerobic exercise.

Many people will ask what is the "best aerobic exercise". Fortunately there are many types and levels of aerobic exercise. For the purpose of living raw, we will claim the definition of exercise regularly performed at moderate levels of intensity for increasingly extended periods of time. Additionally, for best results, an aerobic exercise regimen involves a warming up period, which is then followed by at least 20 minutes of moderate to intense exercise that involves large muscle groups. This is then followed by a cooling down period at the end of the exercise period. This type of exercise you should do 3 or 4 times a week, but will be things you can look forward to and enjoy like, walking, hiking, jogging, rowing, and swimming. You will find that most aerobic exercise does not require special aerobic exercise equipment.

Your body is a complex machine combing an infinite and continuous number of electrical, biochemical, and physiological processes. Just like any good machine it needs to be in motion and be maintained to work properly. Your body wants to be stretched, trained, and tested. A sedentary lifestyle is an early death sentence. Move it or lose it.

4. Benefits of Colon Cleansing

The pros and cons of colon cleansing are widely debatable. The "benefits of colon cleanse" is presented here in a matter of fact way for you to review, consider, and decide for yourself. As the body’s waste system, the ability to cleanse the colon would seemingly equate to a healthy colon, and therefore essential to good health. People often get sidetracked with the notion of a 7 day colon cleanse, or whatever constitutes the current at hone colon cleanse, parasite cleansing, and detoxing of the bowels. Just consider that nearly everything you eat ends up in your bowels. It would be an obvious possibility that toxins and parasites might like such an environment, and ultimately be a contributing factor for various diseases, such as obesity, constipation, and a myriad of other unhealthy conditions.

There are many colon cleansing products being promoted in the marketplace. The truth be known, there are many aspects of cleanse the colon naturally that can be accomplished using common and easy to find natural ingredients.

The benefits of colon cleanse does not have to involve colonics, enemas, and harsh laxatives or pseudo-medical procedures. A raw food diet high in fiber, along with adequate amounts of clean alkaline water to flush your system will go far in creating a healthy sustainable plumbing system. Juicing and occasional fasting are also beneficial considerations for maintaining a healthy digestive system and clean colon.

5. Deep Breathing Oxygen Detoxification

Deep Breathing Exercises are one of the most effective ways to cleanse and detoxify. When is the last time you actually thought about breathing? Yet breathing is the only bodily function that is both voluntary and involuntary. You can easily learn to use oxygen to achieve whole body detoxification.

Free oxygen is the oxygen in the air, and the form of oxygen that we need for normal respiration and metabolism. You can increase the amount oxygen throughout your body by practicing deep breathing exercises. One of the "benefits of deep breathing" (practiced deep breathing) is providing much needed oxygen to all areas of your body.

Deep Breathing is life giving, and can also be considered breathing relaxation therapy. This can be done along with an exercise routine, or just about anywhere you have a quiet moment to yourself. A deep breathing exercise should be part of every raw foodist’s daily regimen. Breathe deep and live longer.

Conclusion

You could easily bookmark this article, come back and review the "5 Pillars of a Raw Food Diet", and have the tools to create some simple actionable items for improving your health, and leave it at that. The Raw Foodist Guide suggests, however, that you come back and continue to investigate each of the Five Pillars of Raw Foodism as we expand on each of the individual topics of a Raw Living Diet, Clean Alkaline Water, Aerobic Exercise, Colon Cleansing, and Deep Breathing Oxygen Detoxification.

Angela Stoke of Raw Reform Dot Com

juice feasting

One of the many services this website is intended to provide is a listing of ongoing unbiased raw food reviews of those individuals promoting a raw foodist lifestyle in one way or another. This may result as reviews of ebooks, raw cookbooks (oxymoron), dietary plans, online videos, and hopefully even interviews along the way. This is how the Raw Foodist Guide became interested in the raw food movement, and ultimately committed to "living raw".

This review is on the Raw Reform Angela Stokes. Should you decide (or should we say when you decide) to learn more about raw foodism, the delightful Angela Stokes just might be one of the many raw foodists you will first encounter on a journey to research the subject in a more thorough manner.

Seeing is believing, and in Angela you will find another living testimonial to the living raw phenomenon. This young woman lost 160 pounds by embracing the raw foodist life. She is from Great Britain (and somewhat proper) so you probably will not find her by searching on Google for "Angie Stokes".

detox diet juice

Angela promotes a free online report that includes much of the information on the "why and how" of a raw food diet. An optimum weight is often the natural outcome for most individuals as they experience the many other benefits on a path to attaining Independent Health through rawism.

The Raw Reform Report by Angela Stokes is a short 28 page report offered free as a pdf download. In this report Angela answers what she has identified as the "Top 10 Questions About Raw Food". Not unexpectedly, you also will be referenced to books and other products for sale in this report.

Here are a few ideas that you will find in the report, as reinforced on this website. Humans are the only species that have the desire to eat cooked and highly processed foods. No other earthly beings count calories, portion foods, anguish over nutritional analysis, or have a need to go on diets. These probably are among the reasons why the simplicity of a live raw food diet works. In this sense, "diet" does not mean a prescribed method of eating certain foods only as a goal to lose weight, but rather is a result of natural healthy living.

"The reason a 100% Raw Food Lifestyle is such a GREAT way to live is because you Leave out everything that is damaging to the body and just keep in the stuff that helps nourish us."

Search out other information and online videos about Angela Stokes and you will see and experience the quiet beauty she has attained. She does have an amazing story, and recently just came off a "92 day juice fast". However, we will save that for another raw food review update on Angela Stokes Raw Reform. Running Raw with Raw Foodist Tim VanOrden

raw food vegan diet

In this raw food review, we will introduce Tim VanOrden. This 100% raw vegan has a very compelling story of how he nursed himself back to heath via a raw food diet. No stranger to eating healthy, Tim had embraced vegetarian and vegan diets for many years prior to his illness. Amazing thing happened though when he decided to "go raw". This guy is in his 40s and now is a competitive runner and promotes running food. No wonder they call him Superman, as he acknowledges he was never athletic or really ever trained at anything as a younger man. Even though raw food running and and running foods are not taken serious by some, he now is known as a leading runningraw marathon runner.

Tim VanOrden’s website Running Raw Dot Com is one on of the first places many people land when they are searching out information on "running raw". Like many other proponents that are highly visible in their efforts to advocate raw foodism, Tim continues to publish many online videos and speaks as an authority figure on the subjects that range from nutrition to detox diet plans and a cleaning diet. He also has fun interviews with people like his gal pals that wrote the New York Best Seller "Skinny Bitch".

Raw Food Lifestyle Choices

There are many different types of Raw Food Enthusiasts, but they all have eating raw food in common. This raw food review discusses a few of the most common descriptions, although most people associate a "raw food" diet with eating fresh fruits and vegetables (a raw vegan diet). Refer back to this website for future raw food reviews on how to start a raw food diet and things like raw food diet weight loss and raw food diet detox.

Raw foodism (or rawism) is a lifestyle promoting the consumption of un-cooked, un-processed, and often organic foods as a large percentage of the diet. If 60-100% of a person’s total food consumption is raw food, he/she is considered a raw foodist or living foodist.

Raw foodists typically believe that the greater the percentage of raw food in the diet, the greater the health benefits. Raw foodism or a raw food diet is usually equated with raw veganism in which only raw plant foods are eaten, but other raw foodists emphasize raw meat and other raw animal products.

 detox diet menu

Depending on the type of lifestyle and results desired, raw food diets may include a select on of raw fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds (including sprouted whole grains such as gaba rice), eggs, fish (such as sashimi), meat (such as carpaccio), and non-pasteurized/non-homogenized dairy products (such as raw milk, raw cheese and raw yogurt).

Raw foodists can be divided between those that advocate raw vegetarianism or raw veganism, those that advocate a raw omnivorous diet, and those that advocate a diet of only raw animal foods (carnivorous).

Adherents of raw foodism believe that consumption of uncooked foods encourages weight loss and prevents and/or heals many forms of sickness and chronic diseases. Some medical studies have indicated that different forms of raw food diets may lead to various health problems, while other studies have shown positive health outcomes with such diets. A few Good Reasons to Consider a Raw Food Diet

beginning a raw food diet

This raw food review is about the concept behind a Raw Food Diet. Raw foodsim is not some sort of fad diet or throwback to a communal or Bohemian lifestyle. Just like most diets you see in the news, you perhaps have read an item or two about the life changing transformational powers associated with organic foods, fresh clean water, an active lifestyle and a natural living food diet. At first glance, many will view living raw foods as perhaps limiting and somehow extreme. The truth is that a raw food diet is really nothing new, and this is a lifestyle change that will bring many rewards for the rest of your life.

The benefits of a raw food diet soon overcome what may seem an inconvenience at first. Evidently, the misconception is that people that that go on such diets are somewhat counterculture, and only experimenting with raw foodism, with probably no real commitment or real chance of success.

A Few Reasons You Should Consider a Raw Food Diet

The usual suspects are ever present and include: to lose weight, to increase energy, to look good, to stay young, to get healthy, and to lead a simpler life. Whatever your reasons, and no matter how you get there, once you find your own way, you will quickly know the benefits and be glad that you discovered living raw. Most individuals find it takes several weeks to settle into a raw food regimen and the raw energy that comes as a byproduct from eating a simpler healthful diet.

Even if this sounds like the usual hype, isn’t a few weeks of your life worth the chance to find the path to some of these realistically attainable goals?

Weight Control – Weight control is almost a given once you commit to a raw food lifestyle. Some people that are too thin due to a lack of absorbing proper nutrients will actually gain weight. People with extra unhealthy weight will see pounds melt away through the process of detoxification.

An Increase of Energy – It is almost a guarantee that you will have increased energy from consuming living raw foods. Some people experience discomfort and have different symptoms during detoxification. Once your body adjusts to real food, the energy boost will come and is real.

Mental Clarity – Most people on a typical western diet have an acidic body. Once your body becomes alkaline from clean water, fresh juices, healthy fats (and too many other good things to list here now) your mind, like your body will start to function better by design. Not to sound like a snake oil treatment, but a few other things you will begin to notice less frequently are colds, flu, allergies, irregularity, arthritis, and many other common ailments. Of course, most of these conditions do not disappear overnight. Your new found course to living independently healthy, however, will eventually resolve many of these problems that likely took years to develop from an improper diet and lifestyle. keep coming back for more raw food reviews.
