About three months ago, I began transitioning to the raw food diet. At first, I was strictly raw… I just kinda threw myself in there, and managed to upold it for about a month. Since then, I’ve kinda fallen off the wagon, though.
My biggest problem was being hungry all the time. At first, I was dealing just fine… It seems, though, that my body will plateau and fluctuate by 3 or 4 pounds (this is in general, not in the raw transition) and as soon as I start to dip below that, I feel insatiably hungry until I load up on food and go back up to my "regular" weight. I hit that plateau about two weeks after going raw, and managed to stay raw- although overindulging- for another few weeks before starting to re-suppliment my diet with cooked grains, ect.
I have had problems in the past with eating disorders. When I hit these plateaus and become ravenous all the time, I get very depressed. When I can keep my food intake steady, I manage ok, but when I start pigging out and eating everything in sight, I tend to "crash" and eat more because of these problems with food that I’ve had in the past.
The main reason that I started putting cooked food back into my diet was protein… I felt that a big reason that I was hungry all the time was because I was lacking it. (Has anyone heard about the Blood Type Diet? About a week ago I was doing some reading, and came across information on it… If the theories that it presents are correct, then as an O- protein should be a major part of my diet…)
Does anyone have any suggestions for moving past this initial phase of detox and getting back in the raw swing? I started taking a greens suppliment, to make sure that I was getting enough. I know that nuts have a good amount of protein, but sometimes they make me sick.
Are there any side-effects that I should expect from this detoxing phase, and anything that I can do to ease the transition?

I am not 100% raw, but I definitely believe in the power of raw fruits and vegetables (I am around 80% raw, vegan, and I take b12, iron, calcium, vitamin D supplements).
The long term strict raw vegans out there look so unhealthy.
Matt Monarch, I love you, but don’t you agree that he looks sickly?
I have yet to see a truly healthy looking LONG-TERM strict raw vegan.
If you know any, please tell me.

I’m trying to become a raw foodist, but every time I eat raw for a couple days, my body starts to detoxify and I get headaches and feel like throwing up! I really want to become at least 70% raw, but don’t want to always feel sick! Should I just tough it out?

I am just starting out and hope to get answers from anyone who is actually a raw foodist. I believe dried beans are extremely cheap and I would really appreciate it if you shared a few recipes with me whether with beans or not..as long as they are cheap! I will go shopping tomorrow so what should I put on my shopping list??
I don’t have a dehydrator or a juicer- all I have is a blender and a food processor. I was wondering anyway if I could use my oven (it’s electric) to dehydrate stuff. I am also wondering why some recipes call for ’sprouted’ beans etc. and how do I sprout beans?

I read that some people have blue eyes that appear brown because of a layer toxins in your eyes caused by eating processed foods. It said that by eating raw foods, the amount of toxins will decrease and your true eye color will be more visible.
Does anyone know if it works?
Hiiro and silentkilla, did you even read what I posted? The eye color would have always been blue, but a layer of toxins would be making them appear brown. This has nothing to do with "genetics"

Meaning – are there any foods out there that can boost brain power/energy, brain cells, mental awareness – ANYTHING.
For some reason, I my mind feels cloudy — I can’t concentrate well – it feel like I have a mental lethargy.
I need something natural that could possibly, open me up, and help me feel more aware and sense of clarity.

Someone I know is now refusing chemotherapy in order to cure his cancer by switching to an exclusively vegan, raw food diet. What? Does this actually work at all, or is it complete bull?

Eating only raw food does not seem that interesting or good to me. I do enjoy fresh veggies, but is it possible to live off no cooked food? Its alright if you disagree and plz enlighten me if you rly can eat raw food well.

I have very bad allergies and I’m desperate to control them. They interfere with my daily functioning and even cause me to be a recluse because if I go outside, I sneeze nonstop. Even my fiance’s parents find me annoying because they are outdoorsy people and I just can’t go outside without taking medicines and precautions. And even then, it doesn’t guarantee anything.
I take 3 kinds of medicines 2x a day and it doesn’t help. I’ve tried 4 different nasal sprays, nothing works. I did allergy shots for a year and they didn’t do anything– it was a waste of time and money. In fact, my insurance is starting to refuse converage for allergy meds because they’ve gotten so bad where I need stronger ones.
I’ve heard the raw food diet works for a lot of people. Some people even said that it made their allergies go away. I am pretty ready to try anything– even if it restricts what I can and cannot eat. I am desperate! Nothing works, but if this does, I’ll stop cooking right away. Can it work?
You’re supposed to see benefits of allergy shots within 6 months, not year. I’m tired of dealing with the allergist. Instead of giving me something to work with, I was told to basically become a recluse and avoid going outside at all costs– she even told me to get rid of my books, and I’m in college!

My dog Barney has been having seizures, he is 9. He does not have canine epilepsy, so I am considering changing his diet–as this may be the source of his problem. Anyone have suggestions, a list, or a website?

I know that the raw food diet has so many benefits for health, longevity, and mental well being. But sadly, I lack the willpower needed to give up all of my beloved cooked foods. My wonderment is, if I eat a diet that is largely raw, but not completely, will I still experience some of the benefits, if to a lesser degree?

I’ve heard of some of the weight-loss programs starting you with 3 days of raw food, obviously no meats. What might this look like? What are good alternative sources of protein that are raw or natural, if any?

I heard that eating your veggies and fruits raw should diminish your chance of getting cancer.Sowe have been eating raw veggies and habe been making fruit and veggy smoothies No meat, no dairy products lots of rice and rice products and all kinds of grains nuts and tofu. Almost no fat except for olive oil no sugar, ezcept when it is in prepared foods and juices. It is a lot of fun once you get the hang of it and is easy and quick to prepare. We feel quite energetic. and my headaches are gone – zap! I also lost 4 pounds in three weeks (fast enough for me)
But we love breads of all kinds and eat it, but we wonder if it is appropriate
with the raw food diet.

I’m thinking about switching my pug to a raw food diet. Rather than starting a debate here, I was wondering if anyone could recommend a good book on switching to such a diet, what to serve, how to prepare it, how to transition from commercially available dog food, etc?
Also, about how much will it cost on a daily basis to feed such a diet, to a 20 pound pug?
Thank you.

I would like to start them on a raw meat, raw vegetable, and oat diet that I make at home. How much should I feed my 12 wk springer spaniel pup and my 83 pound senior German shepherd. If you have other suggestions you would like to add that would be great!
