http://pets.groups.yahoo.com/group/RawPup/ - if your pet is a puppy
http://pets.groups.yahoo.com/group/Rawfeeding/

How to start? - Slowly and with bland meats like chicken or rabbit.
What to feed? Anything you know your dog is not sensitive to and what you can get. Chicken to kangaroo.
What not to feed - Cook bones, bones that have sat out long enough to get dry, weight bearing bones from large prey. Any meats with additives etc.

Rosalie - Considering what dogs do with their mouths and what they will put in them, raw meat is low on the totem pole for concern

Nancy U - Raw is as expensive as the person makes it. If they aren't out looking for deal and buying high end meats that they normally wouldn't buy for themselves then YES it can be expensive. As for time consuming - pull meal already portioned out ahead time from freezer, thaw, feed. Oh yes VERY time consuming.

ETA: As for what layla said is FALSE. There are MANY small breeds on the raw diet

"well if you have have a small dog (Pomeranian,Yorkie, dachshund, etc) don't feed it any it will start loosing hair and get sick ! But if you have a big dog still bad but they can survive it.anyways here" This is total Bull

"before feeding them any raw meat
cook it for at least a few minutes" um hello its a RAW diet that means RAW meat not COOKED meat.

Examples of SMALL breeds on raw - None of them are missing any fur/hair

Read about raw feeding here http://www.bravorawdiet.com/rawdiets.html Read through the other links on the left side of the screen.

Although raw feeding can be great for your pets health, it can be costly, and time consuming for you. There are now so many grain free foods on the market, I don't think raw is the only healthy way to go. It's all up to you what you feed your dog.

First decide if you want to go Raw Prey Model diet or the BARF. Read up on each. If you are going to feed vegetables and fruits raw with your feedings do not use Avocado,Apple core, grapes, raisins, mushroom
or too much liver. A lot of fruit have a tendency to make dogs have diarrhea.
