Is hoodia gordonii worth looking into?
I have started on a quest to shed some pounds and get healthier recently. In order to do this I have been counting calories (1,450 per day) and jogging two miles every morning (I’m planning on increasing my distance/pace as time goes on).
My problem is that, in spite of eating 5-6 small meals a day and drinking 2 litres of water, I always seem to be hungry. I’m assuming that this is just my body adapting to my change in eating habits (I’ve always stuck with healthy foods (i.e. no fast food/fried foods/sugary foods), but now I am eating much smaller portions).
So my question is: Would hoodia gordonii be worth investigating until my body adapts to my new lifestyle?
I have done my research and am eating the proper amount of calories for my lifestyle.

Megan:
Congrats on the lifestyle change! Sounds like you have a solid fitness plan going right now. Keep it up.
You are correct when you say your body is probably adapting to the new lifestyle changes you’ve made. The changes you have made to your exercise and diet regime have boosted your metabolism. That’s why you’re hungry like crazy.
I’m surprised, though, that you’re as hungry as you are given all the water you drink. Normally, hunger can be a sign of thirst but in your case that’s probably not the cause.
I will comment on hoodia in a second but a couple things I would do is increase my protein intake. I would aim to include more protein in each of your meals. Protein is fuel for your muscles and is needed in greater quantities when you are working out on a regular basis. In addition, protein is a great appetite suppressant itself. You’d be surprised how far a protein shake will go in terms of curbing appetite.
As for hoodia, it does have the potential to be an effective appetite suppressant but it doesn’t work for everyone. It’s can also be very expensive (figure anywhere between $40-$60/month). There are hundreds of hoodia supplements on the market, but as others have mentioned here, most of them are fake – meaning they contain very little (if any) hoodia gordonii.
If you are considering hoodia, make sure you buy authentic hoodia gordonii. It’s very easy to get scammed so you want to be informed. The two most important things to look for when buying hoodia is CITES certificates and independent lab test results. You’ll find these documents on the websites of companies who sell hoodia diet pills. There are other things to look for as well and you can read about them here:

In case you are wondering, authentic hoodia gordonii has been proven to be very safe with virtually no side effects. If it works for you, it can be a very effective natural appetite suppressant.
P.S. Hoodia doesn’t always work immediately. It can take as long as two weeks before it works. It can also take as much as 3,000mg per day of authentic hoodia for it to work effectively.
P.S.S. I would recommend you increase your protein intake first and if that doesn’t work, then I would give hoodia serious consideration. You can even add hoodia to your protein shake if you want! Here is an article that outlines how to do that:

Hope this helps.

i will start off with no i don’t believe in it. most of the hoodia products dont even carry enough of the ingrediants to be useful.
now my next question is did you research a site for calories for what you are eating. there is a great one at calorie-count.com. it will tell you how many calories you should be eating based on height, weight and lifestyle.
One shud always have an open mind on looking at things.
Eat only when hungry and not more than thrice a day. Nothing other than water in between. Include plenty of uncooked vegetables and fruits in each meal, preferably 50%. Chew each morsel at least 32 times to activate ur body to generate signals of hunger/fullness. Obey these signals.
Take light exercises and brisk walks regularly preferably twice a day.
U will achieve what u have not even dreamt and that too in a reasonable time. Do not be in a hurry.
