My Hamster is living up to his name Pudge…. Can you help me get him on a diet?
I have a hamster whose name is pudge. You can guess why. I fed him every night, in medium amounts. When I clean his cage, food galore on the bottom. Now I feed him a lot in his dish every other day. I feed him orange slices sometimes. Other than that…. dry food! He is still living up to his name. He has a wheel and uses it mainly to sleep under. I put him in his ball, but he gets tired after 10 minutes or so. (Barely walking, staying still.) Help?!
Thank You!!!

The "Dry Food" I am feeding Pudge is seeds. The brand is Nutraphase Gold.

What kind of "dry food" are you feeding him? Seeds are high in fat and calories, so you really need to cut back on the amount of seeds he is getting. Lab blocks are about your best bet for food with a very small amount (1-2 teaspoons/day at MOST) of grains, seeds, dried fruit, etc for variety.
I think you should feed him less each day , don’t give him alot of snacks . We went through this with my dog , ( Very different from a hamster but anyways) she was over weight and we were feeding her less and she lots 4 pounds in a month and it looks like she is getting more energy . and mabye you could do that with your hamster …
Hope this helps
PS : Im new with this
Dont feed him too much food with what I call treats! (seeds stuff like that) Feed him a compact block of food. You can give him 3 a day. This way hes not beeing so picky on what he wants to eat either! –like you finding food on the bottom of the cage– Also keep putting him in his ball several times a day 4-5 He should burn it off fast. Remember lay off the treats! the food is called fortified diet. You can also give him some cabbage. This is a good treat to give him, that wont make him gain anything!
