Raw food diet? Rottweiler & Shih Tzu?
I am thinking of putting my two dogs on the raw food diet. i’d just like to know if its ok for both dogs to eat the same things (obviously smaller portions) What are the best things to give them amd what are the benefits. Also, is there anywhere in the North West of England that specialise in raw food for dogs or am i best just going to the butchers and freezing it?
The Rottweiler is 12 months and the Shih Tzu is 5 months
Thanks

Raw diets such as raw meaty bones or prey model are great. However, leave out ALL of the fruit and veggie matter, and especially never feed a dog grains – they cannot digest them and will only spell out digestive issues and more poop for you to clean up.
Figure about 2-3% of the dog’s estimated adult body weight to be fed daily. Divide that into 2 meals and voila! You’ve got a simply diet, and you know exactly what goes into it.
A general rule of thumb is 80% muscle meat, 10% bone, 10% organ meat, with 50% of that 10% being liver as often as possible. There are variations, of course, but that is the gist of it.
Don’t know about the UK, but there are some sites in the US that sell tripe and other frozen bits of animals. Perhaps a butcher would be best for your situation – that’s how I’m initially sourcing Satchmo’s food.
Here is great and comprehensive site to get you started :http://www.rawfed.com/myths/
Good luck, and I applaud you for lifting the veil from your eyes! : )
For the most part, so long as you give smaller portions, they should be okay to eat the same things. I haven’t gotten my dogs on raw (yet), but I know a good number of people that feed their dogs raw. Generally they feed beef, chicken, venison, etc… along with things like rice, and fruits and veggies as treats normally. They also add things like yogurt every now and then. Most of the people I know that feed raw go to either a butcher or just a general grocery store, buy in bulk, and freeze their raw foods.
