Raw food on a strict budget?
I’ve been reading many books on raw foodism, I am almost 14 and I really want to make it my lifestyle, but my parents complain that fresh produce is too expensive… it’s not like I’m expecting the to buy everything organic but I do understand that we’re going through a tight spot in a 5 person family with my dad on unemployment.
So… I need some realistic suggestions for me right now.

I guess you’re too young to drive, but you should check out your local farmers market. Maybe you could take public transportation, get a ride from a friend, or your parents could take you. There is usually a lot of cheap and fresh produce there!
For example, at the store I pay $2.79 for an avocado….at the farmer’s market I pay $0.98!!!
It may not be organic but try produce markets or flea markets-sometimes you can buy rejects or in bulk. Maybe you can ask local grocery stores for slightly damaged fruits and veggies. Maybe you can try to grow your own. There is no easy solution
You can learn to grow your own veggies in the garden, even if it will not immediately help. They will taste better and are quite low in cost, just seeds, water and sunlight.
You can find good prices sometimes at farmer markets, or in bulk places like Costco. Also don’t rule out using coupons to reduce prices at the supermarket, leaving more allowance towards buying produce. Good luck!
i am kinda coming fromt he same place as you. its almost spring so i am stoked to GROW my own stuff again which i usually do. it saves unbelieveable amounts of money and its also gonna be organic if you dont treat what you grow, which is a huge plus. and also the farmers markets offer great deals. look into your own garden though because that is the best way to go. we shop at costco cause you can buy produce in bulk for a real good price
Fresh produce tends to be cheaper than canned/frozen. However, preparing things specifically for one person and having to buy extra groceries for that could become expensive.
I commend you for wanting to commit to a lifestyle like this, but try waiting until you’re old enough to support your diet (at least partially) on your own. If your parents are worried about cost, this might be the best thing to do.
