Raw foodist question: Can i chop up pecans, walnuts and ground whole flax before soaking?
In place of soaking the whole nut or seed, I am asking if it is okay to soak chopped up/ ground pieces. It is still ‘raw’ just not in one piece. Will the inhibitors still go away during the soaking period if they are not one piece?

I don’t think there is anything "wrong" with chopping up the ingredients, the point to soaking is to aid in digestion and neutralize the enzyme inhibitors. One thing I thought about when soaking nuts or other things, is if you lose any of the nutrients in the water? Either way you are still getting the majority of the good stuff from nuts and seeds, so I wouldn’t be too concerned. If you buy the nuts chopped, just use them, but I would advise buying whole flax and grinding it yourself. The oils in flax are very volatile and go rancid very quickly once ground. So if you are buying pre-ground flax, then at least make sure you store it in the fridge and buy it in small quantities. Happy soaking!
