I am getting a shelter dog next summer and I expect it not to be as healthy as dogs that have been raised on high quality life styles. Here is my idea:
Switch to a high-quality dog food for about 4 months
If he doesn’t look better, go on a raw diet (i’ll need some recipes please) for about a month or whenever he looks nice
High quality dog food again for awhile and then switch to an okay dog food.
Does that sound okay? That will be over the course of like 10 months, is that too much switching, should I just feed raw, premium and then okay. Raw then okay. Premium then okay food?
Thank you!
PS I need to know how much to feed—- he’ll be about 45lbs with about 1 hour of exercise a day.
of course I’ll love him :) He’ll get as much TLC as the most spoiled dog in the world! Does anyone have raw recipes?
He isn’t getting crappy food!!!!! He’ll probably be a lab x whippet or something nice. Just to build his immune system on the good food and make his coat shinier and then and OKAY dog food to maintain the coat.
He’ll be young… 3-5 years

I’ve gotten lazy lately and lost energy. I stopped exercising and I’m afraid to pack on pounds.
I started exercising and watched what I ate in the beginning of this year. After about 4 months, I lost 19lb. I went from 173 to 154lb. I’m not satisfied with it but I’m glad I progressed. But that was all during school. Since I was busy all day (shool and work), eating wasn’t on my mind all the time. Even though I was tired, I pushed myself to exercise when I came home in the evening or before I went to work in the morning. Now I am trying to lose a little more weight. I have almost no energy. I’ve gotten really lazy. I go to work and come home and just sit around and watch tv. Not only that I eat too much. This morning I managed to force myself to put on my running shoes. I ran for no more than 10 minutes and sat down. My feet are always so tired from work and the summer heat makes me want to sit around even more. I’m so frustrated with myself.

When should I introduce a third meal? I was thinking of introducing it when she turns 6 months. She has started solids at 4 months (rice cereals) then at 4 1/2 months I introduced her to vegetable puree (all of which were ok by her pediatrician).
Here is her current feeding schedule:
6am: 6 oz of formula
9am: 2tbsp of cereal
10am: 6 oz of formula
2pm: 6 oz of formula
5pm: 1-2 cubes (approx 2-4 tbsp) of homemade baby food
6pm: 6 oz of formula
9pm: 6 oz of formula
*sometimes she will have another bottle at night before bed (10-11pm)
According to a 6 month sample menu I received from her pediatrician she should have infant cereal for breakfast and supper. Would it really matter if I continued giving her infant cereal in the morning and veggie puree in the evening for supper ?
Also, instead of increasing the amount of tbsp she has of cereals, I was thinking of giving her 2 tbsp of cereal and 1 tbsp of fruit puree and gradually increasing it to 2 tbsp of cereal and 2 tbsp of fruit puree in the morning.
So basically at 6 months, she would be having in the morning 2tbsp of infant cereal and 2 tbsp of fruit puree. For lunch, she would have 4tbsp of cereal and for supper 4 tbsp of vegetable puree.
I’m not looking into implementing a rigid schedule but rather for some guidelines as to what would consist a healthy and balance diet for a 6 month old baby. What should her 3 meals consist of.
The tap water that I put in my fishtank is alkaline (tap water is about 7.2 – 7.4). I always test my water just before doing a water change each week. By the end of the week when it’s time to do a water change, my tank water is acidic, like 6.2 or even lower. So within a week (or less) it’s gone from alkaline to acidic, then back to alkaline again when I do a water change. No doubt this is harming my fish as I’ve had a few casualities that I couldn’t explain any other way.
Why is my pH doing this? And what can I do about it?
My tank specs:
45 gallon, 26 degrees celcius, freshwater community
Ammonia and nitrite consistantly show zero.
According to aqadvisor.com, my stocking level is 61%.
Tank has a medium-large piece of driftwood (I know this can affect the pH, but so drastically?), river pebbles, plastic plants.
Two canister filters so it is well filtered. Weekly water change of about 25-30%, gravel is syphoned during this.
Thanks for your help! :)
I put the driftwood piece in there when I first started the tank, about 3 or 4 months ago. The yellow coloured water it created has long since disappeared. Could this still affect things?
I haven’t been testing my tap water properly apparently, I will try again, thank you. :)
I just got a thought… would putting a bit of shell grit in the tank or canister help stablise it at all?
So I’m living with my aunt and uncle and there kids…I love it but I’m also trying to lean down. I’m 148lbs and I would like to lose 18-20lbs in the next 3-4 months. The problem is that I pay them 300 dollars a month for food, technically rent is free. So it’s only board I’m paying. However it seems the food we buy (I go shopping with her) isn’t really conducive to weight loss. I have a hard time eat well fine there isn’t very much healthy selection. I spent a 3 days eating bran flakes and apples and yogurt for breakfast and lunch because there was anything else healthy and then at dinner I would cave because there wasn’t any salad or anything lean to eat, I’ll end up eating pasta or potatoes or bread or anything!!!
I can’t lose weight like this! I need to keep strong through out the day but I don’t know how to tell my aunt I’m not happy with the food options at dinner! I’m all to happy eating it at the time but I regret it the next morning!
Oh I should say that I feel bad asking for things in the supermarket, I feel like I’m wasting money or something…
I’m already vegan (vegetarian for a year, vegan for 4 months) and I’m ready to take it a step further with Raw Foodism. If you know anything at all about the topic (I don’t want to hear that is is bad for me), anything from recipes to things that I can eat in general, it would be much appreciated! Thanks :)
