I am getting an 11 week old standard poodle puppy and he is coming on a raw diet. I want him to have all the proper nutrients, I have put the entire recipe in nutritiondata.com and can see the amounts of all of the nutrients and calories. I have been trying to go by the AAFCO dog food requirements. But they are in percentages and nutritiondata.com is showing me in mg.
I may be just making a stupid mistake but for example aafco says dog food needs 1.0% calcium. And in 100g of food there is 143mg of calcuim. So my answer ends up being 0.143% calcium. If this calculation is true then the puppy will be extremely deficient in this vital nutrient. Maybe I should focus on how much of the nutrients a day they need?
This actually isn’t a question but a solution as I have had elevated levels of EBV, and Mono symptoms for 10 months.
One thing I found very helpful was vitamin B supplements. The ones I used were Super Complex by Nature Made, and my symptoms of fatigue, insomnia, anxiety have lessened significantly. Another supplement I tried was monolaurin which seemed to have good effect, although I stopped taking that but I continually take Vitamin B complex, calcium, multivitamin, vitamin E, fish oil -omega 3 and I am feeling much better w/ close to no symptoms, albeit I have a minor sore throat.
I’ve tried large doses of Vitamin C, always drink lots of fluids, honey and lemon, green tea, white tea, milk thistle
Try vitamin B if you know you have CEBV or high EBV levels, I’m thinking that the virus depleted my body of B vitamins, and now I take 3 pills a day w/ food. It seems to be helping, try it for yourself!!!!
he hasnt eaten in about 2 weeks. he has food available 14 hours out of the day while the lamps are on. fresh greens and claci powdered super worms. no change in food, no change in anything…. any ideas???? please only answer if you know what you are talking about
40 gallon glass tank, sterilized childrens play sand, uva uvb lamo, proper heating, water dish, baths once a week, usually redleaf and romaine lettuce, calcium dust with a little bit of multivitamin dust, also have a heat pad, but dont usually use that, havent used it in 3 months
Yes, I did already ask this but no one really answered my question…please don’t tell me I shouldn’t switch my cat’s diet as it is neccessary for my one cat’s health as 1 is sick because of the commercial food.
I have been thinking about switching my cats to a raw diet for quite some time. Since I’m going to be getting a dog soon, I’ve decided there is no better time than now to really work towards switching them to a new diet. I do have a couple of questions though…first of all, if I am understanding the information I have read so far correctly cats have much more extensive nutritional needs than dogs…this slightly freaks me out as I’m afraid I won’t supplement their raw diet correctly. So look online I found this pre-mix for raw foods it’s called alnutrin, does anyone know anything about this? Do you think it is quality? You have to add raw meet and water that’s it. It’s fairly cheap w/o shipping and says it makes 32 pounds of food.
Also, I can’t find anything like this for dogs…is it because it isn’t necessarily needed? Can anyone recommend a pre-mix of quality for raw diets for dogs?
Does anyone have any recipes for making a homemade dry kibble, as I would still like to free feed my cats throughout the day, or any other recommendations for switching my cats (and soon to be dog) to a raw diet?
Here is the link to the stuff I am looking at http://www.knowwhatyoufeed.com/alnutrin_with_calcium.html

Sorry I meant to attach this earlier this is the link for that mix stuff:

Ok first of all…the reason I want to change my cats diet is because they have been eating commercial cat food which is terrible for them, my senior cat is pre-diabetic and needs to lose some weight.
Second, my cats have been exposed to dogs because I believe in socializing my animals to people and other animals…really who doesn’t do this?
Third, I think you can make homemade kibble and that’s what I would be interested in doing…PLEASE ANY RECIPE is greatly appreciated.
My cat is overweight and is eating the minimum amount of dry food, so I plan on putting him on a raw diet. The Problem? Every recipe is different and some even conflict each other.
I don’t want to kill my cat by using the wrong supplement or too much/little of something.
Is it really that techinal or can you feed them raw chicken with any food supplement mixed in? Then the bones thing, I don’t want to use bone, so must I find a supplement with a ton of calcium? How about Salmon oil… can I do without?
As you see, lots of questions, looking for anyone with experience.
we are testing the diffrent temp and diet. i just want to know what would be the best set up to grow them and diet. for diet i have read that dried cat food and milk work. so im going to put protien with one a calcium with others. would this work? and what should i put in the tank for the crickets to live in?
I feed them crickets , kale , mustard greens , romaine lettuce , super meal worms , apple , green beans ,corn ,occasionally carrots , squash , grapes, blue berries, radish ,calcium on their food everyday .Yet they have diarrhea. Please can someone tell me why. And how to correct this . Thank you. They have a proper set up and light setup.
I also feed them collard greens .
can you name some of the fruits, veggies and calcium things that i can give my cockatiels, while breeding, a better chance at producing live, more and healthier babies??
The city I live in has hard water. From the latest report 2008 the average is ‘very hard’ at 160ppm (around 9.3 grains per gallon). There looks to be a lot of calcium and magnesium in the water, and it is treated with chlorine apparently. The average pH of tap water is also 7.9.
I haven’t done an official pH test yet myself, but my tap water has a yellow tint in large quantities. I have a filtered dispenser pitcher for drinking and cooking.
My question- will using my tap water detrimentally affect my Roma and Sweet 100 tomato (or my Spicy Globe basil) plants? Should I use filtered water or just treat the tap water somehow before hand? My thought is that the Ca and Mg would actually benefit my plants, but the alkaline pH worries me (should it?) I planted them in Miracle-Gro potting mix last week and it’s "fertilizer analysis" is 0.21-0.7-0.14
To the plant’s credit- they seem to be doing fine, one is particularly happy and has grown at least half in size (Roma last week 4in, today about 6in!) I’ve pinched off the few flowers that’ve appeared and will continue to do so until the plants are at least 18" They get filtered sun from sunrise and full sun from 10AMish to sunset. (Is that TOO much? it’s at least 10hrs). If it helps, I live in Los Angeles, CA (yup I’m planning on getting a shade for them come July).
Any opinions on the water or anything else is very much appreciated. I’m a worrynut, so sue me :)
My cat (about six months old) is on a raw food diet called "The Ultimate Diet" from a book I read titled such.
Anyway, it’s going well except my cat won’t eat the raw chicken bone after eating all the meat off of it. He simple thinks it’s just there to hold the meat. Ive tried to get softer bones such as the chicken necks but I can’t buy them anywhere. Because of this, I’ve been feeding him his dry food along with the raw diet so I can be sure he’s also getting the calcium he needs.
How can I get him to eat the bone, or what other bones can I get him that he may be more likely to eat?
Also, I know I can grind up the bone and add it to the meal, but I haven no way of grinding it…no butchers are in my area…
Thanks! :)
They are supposed to eat RAW bones, cooked bones are bad because they are splintery and could make them choke, but raw bones are necessary for calcium.
Help! I want to eat a more natural, unprocessed diet primarily of veggies and fruit. Eggs and seafood are okay too as are nuts, but I don’t want to be soaking nuts or sprouting seeds. I want to get my calcium from vegetable sources rather than dairy and I want to cook my food as well rather than blend and eat everything raw. I need some recipes and support for this lifestyle but I don’t know where I fit in. The raw recipes don’t do it and the macrobiotic ones include soy, which I don’t want to eat either. Anyone know what I’m looking for?
I have been reading about the benefits of the raw food diet, and that it gives you more energy and better skin.
However, there are vitamin deficits of b12 and calcium. Can you supplement vitamins to take the place of the vitamins you aren’t getting?
Anyone have anything good or bad to say that have tried it?
I am not 100% raw, but I definitely believe in the power of raw fruits and vegetables (I am around 80% raw, vegan, and I take b12, iron, calcium, vitamin D supplements).
The long term strict raw vegans out there look so unhealthy.
Matt Monarch, I love you, but don’t you agree that he looks sickly?
I have yet to see a truly healthy looking LONG-TERM strict raw vegan.
If you know any, please tell me.
I plan to go raw, but what do i need to do to make sure i'm getting all the things i need (protein, calcium, iron, etc)?
(i'm already a veg)
