I’m 17, 114 lbs, 5′4”, female.

I’m not necessarily looking to lose weight (Though a pound or two off my tummy wouldn’t hurt ;)) But I was inspired earlier this week by a teacher of mine. She lost a hundred pounds over the past year through surgery (gastro bypass I believe?) and she had to change her diet drastically. She says that she’s never felt better. She can see and think clearly, she’s happier, full of energy.
I was just wondering if there’s anything I can do on a much smaller scale to get to that level of healthiness?
I typically don’t eat a lot of junk because I’m hypoglycemic and can’t handle a lot of sugar. But I also eat at odd hours of the day and mostly eat carbs.

Any suggestions for diet and exercise to increase my energy and happiness??

today I ran 6.3 miles, 200 crunches, leg lifts, pilates toning video. I ate about 1480 calories..all healthy. Lean protein,salmon, veggies, fruits, kashi products, skim milk, etc.

but tomorrow is my day off of exercise and I have to eat out as well.

Ok.. I’ve tried to do a little research on this, and the internet is filled with a myriad of products, plans, etc. claiming to cleanse the colon and detox your system. I am not sure what to think. Around november of last year, i switched over from a disgusting junk food thriving, soda drinking, chain smoking living habit to a cleaner more exercise and healthy eating habit. Okay, so don’t tell me that its bad for me, and that its going to give me bacteria or anything, but I love the taste of raw hamburger. I’m considering going on a raw food diet. I’ve looked around Google and found that nuts, veggies and fruits, raw meat are part of the diet. Is it a better diet for someone who doesn’t exercise that much? Drinking milk kind of grosses me out for some reason, so I don’t drink it. (I still take vitamin D from a pill) I still eat eggs, too. And also I don’t eat pork. It’s kind of bad for you. I eat vegtables (sp?) and fruits all the time. And bcuz I don’t drink milk, I drink water w/ my lunch @ school, and sometimes I’ll also drink it w/ my breakfast. I walk around the block a couple times a week during the spring and summer, and during the fall and winter I pretty much rely (sp?) on gym class for my exercise since it gets really cold in the winter where I live. What foods do I have 2 cut out of my diet so I can stick to this? (the only thing I can think of that has milk in that I’ll eat is probably like Pop-Tarts, and I hardly ever eat those). And also, what kind of exercises can I do indoors during the winter?

I’m 5′11 and weigh 200 lbs, which I gained 3 months after I got sober from drugs (I was 140 for 4-5 years before getting sober).

Over the last four years of being sober I have tried EVERYTHING to loose some of the weight that I have gained. Food wise I have done Weight Watchers, Nutrisystem, Vegitarianism, Raw foodism, calorie counting (under 2000 daily) and for exercise I have done Curves, 24 hour fitness personal trainer, biking to work, yoga classes, pilates, hiking, at-home personal-trainer 3 days a week, and as of the last 2 1/2 months I’ve been doing the P90x work out for an hour every day, just to list some of the things I can remember trying.

I’ve talked to doctors who have tested me for diabetes which my mom has and some other stuff they say I’m healthy and I should work out more, but I excersise so often some days I can hardly get out of bed because my muscles are so sore.

I’ve been doing these programs correctly and the only thing that I ever lost weight on was a 14-day Juice fast I did but I gained all the weight back when I started eating solid food. I am afraid my family has a history of obesity and I will never be able to escape it?

This is so depressing that people who just meet me automatically think I’m some "lazy fat person" because my weight I can’t get it off and I don’t know what to do.

A friend of mine said that maybe I have a mental block against loosing weight and that I should get hypnotized but I thought that didn’t work and why would I have a mental block about loosing weight anyway?

Any suggestions??????
I’ve also used some diet pills – Hydroxycut, DexC-20, Hoodia, CFR’s Metobolic Fat Burner, etc etc etc. Pretty much they’re all bogus IMHO.

I’d like to transition my career into health & fitness? What’s the best way?

I’m interested in going back to school for a different kind of career. I’m interested in the health and fitness field and/or a degree in Sports Medicine. I have a certification in personal training, but would like an official degree to confidently move into a specialized area of study. Any advice would be great! I could imagine myself working as a high school coach on the humble side or for a Sports team of some kind on the more extravagant side. Even physical therapy sounds interesting.

I am a physical therapist and I think it is a great field, but I started as an athletic trainer – I think this might be a good idea for you if you want to work with a sports team. You would need to go to an accredited school, work in the field to gain experience, and pass the exam to become an ATC (Certified Athletic Trainer). Then you could work for a high school or college, in a physical therapy clinic, maybe even teach a sports medicine class at the school you work at. There are very limited opportunities for working in professional sports, but it is possible too. The ATC’s role is prevention (taping, wrapping, educating), assessment (on the field and in the training room), treatment and rehabilitation of the athletes/student athletes’ injuries (acute or chronic). I had a lot of fun when I worked as an ATC and often miss it.

i want to know if anyone here has been certified through the national certification of sports medicine or other personal trainer certifications through online courses and exams. And if you have how successful have you been in the personal training business. I want to know because i went to a site by the national association of sports medicine that offers their programs for $700 to $800 to become a certified personal trainer and im planning on doing this since im big on health and fitness. If a “certified” trainer is are not qualified to teach gym class to 2nd graders, then he shouldn’t be trying to teach adults how to work out.
