One of my best friends has Crohn’s. He cannot eat raw foods, such as: vegetables, fruits and nuts. He also has trouble with dairy and some starchy-carbs. Such foods cause "flare-ups" of his Crohn’s. Pretty much the only food he has no trouble digesting is meat.
What kind of recipes can be prepared for him?
My sister’s birthday is tomorrow, and I really want to make her a special treat. The problem is, she recently started a weight-loss program (Metabolic Research, if you are familiar with it) that I myself just finished losing 20 pounds with. We are both eating much healthier, and are limiting our intake of sweets as much as possible, especially my sister since she’s just started. We recently discovered raw recipes, where you make delicious foods using fruits, nuts, and natural sweeteners. Since I am on maintenance, I’m allowed to eat pretty much every recipe we’ve looked at, but my sister can’t have dates or date paste at this point in her diet, and the key ingredient of almost every raw recipe cake or pie dessert is dates or date paste, to bind the dessert together. If anyone can give me a raw recipe for a pie, cake, or even cookies or other yummy dessert that doesn’t need dates or date paste or direct me to a website where I might find one, I would really appreciate. Or, if you can give me an alternative I can use in place of the dates to bind the recipe, I would appreciate it as well. She can have almost any fruit. My sister’s always been there for me, and I want her to have something special on her birthday. Thanks!
I have a14 week old shiba inu puppy, duke. I currently feed him Artemis: Small Breed Puppy Formula. I know this is really good food however i want to give him a healthier diet. How would i go about doing this, raw diet? what is raw diet exactly? Also could i do like cooked chicken, or steak pieces along with mashed fruits and veggie?
Links to websites or recipes for some good homemade food to go along with his dry food would be greatly appreciated.
I was hoping to get an answer from someone who has experience in this. I have a couple questions about feeding raw foods to my puppy. Is it safe? Is it really better for her than the crappy commercial food like Science Diet and Why?? How do I get started? I read I have to make it balanced and complete, How? Should I be using some sort of vitamin supplements as well? Which meats, veggies and fruits are best? Which things should I NOT be feeding her( ex. onions) ? Is there anything else I should know before considering this? Can you recommend a good site with some sort of recipes or something? Thanks, A best answer will be awarded if there is one :)
I would talk to my vet, but she thinks science diet is best.. Its crap. It contains corn and soy meal, and barely any meat. Dogs have trouble with this because they cant digest it well. Making them appear full, but it is not healthy, I have researched brands that are supposed to be good for her but I have no way of getting them. I am on an army base in Germany and cant find a place that will ship the food to apo. So my options are feeding her brands like science diet, purina, and iams, Or making her food so I know its not crap.
I don’t like cooking or doing dishes much. For the last six months, I am on a mostly-fruit diet. I eat fruits for breakfast, and snacks. I have a big smoothie of fruits for lunch. But at night time I crave cooked food, and have regular food. Can anyone give me tips on some simple raw vegan recipes for night time, that doesn’t require elaborate recipes.
Any good salad or wraps thats easy to make and filling (and tasty)? Also I am considering buying a juice extractor, they seem pretty expensive, but am spending well over 0 at jamba juice every month, so may be a worthy investment? any thoughts on that?
Thanks for all answers in advance!
Thanks for all the great answers and information guys…keep them coming!
I’m going to try this diet/meal plan. Does anyone know if it is good for weight loss/fat loss?
-one bowl of plain Quaker rolled oats oatmeal or toast with peanut butter and fresh fruit for breakfast
-fresh fruit throughout the day, raw or in smoothie form with just ice
-raw/cooked vegetables for dinner
so basically all i’m eating is fruits and vegetable with a little bit of substantial carbs in the morning… will i lose a good amount of weight?
I’m 17 years old, about 130lbs, and have been vegetarian for over a year. Want to try vegan lifestyle now. I still eat beans, legumes, and nuts for protein.
so i just did a recent weigh-in and my current weight is 124lbs at 5’5", not 130…
I remember as a child I lived with my Grandma and she always ordered out for food, and I remember at one point I got tired of junk food, and I know how BAD it is for you. Every night I make a homecooked meal with two vegetables, and all my children ( except my 7 MYOB, ) eat two fruits a day, breakfast and after school… anyways, what does your childs diet consist of… do you have like a schedule?
Of those who feed a BARF diet, what exactly do you feed them.?
I’m interested in examples of actual diets you give your dog.
I have friends that have their dogs on raw, but where I live they don’t have the meal packages or they’re way too expensive. So we are going to have to do this from scratch. (the veg and fruit part)
I’m not interested in somebody telling me about possibilities of salmonella poisoning, blah blah blah. Go to your local dog food factory and see how much salmonella you can find in the factory. And while you’re there ask why most of the food they make is not even absorbed or capable of being absorbed by the dog’s system – it’s filler and most is bad filler. It’s sickening! I’ve done my research, and I have made up my mind. I’ve seen results and heard of results.. dogs on their death bed switched to raw and turning 360s. Less vet visits, doctors asking what the flip the people have their dog on because they seem so healthy, etc.
thehamburgs@hotmail.com email us if you have any questions on BARF or are new to the idea.
Thank you to the poster regarding comment on knowing your source. So very true! :)
What i’m interested in – in specific – is the veggies and fruits. We’ll be feed majority of chicken back and turkey neck. But it’s all the other that doesn’t come pre-packaged that we will have to put together on our own. muscle meat, vegetables, fruits, oil, etc… the other 40% or "meal deal" portion that is.
today I ran 6.3 miles, 200 crunches, leg lifts, pilates toning video. I ate about 1480 calories..all healthy. Lean protein, salmon, veggies, fruits, kashi products, skim milk, etc.
but tomorrow is my day off of exercise and I have to eat out as well.
does this sound okay? or too many carbs?
B:
-whole wheat wrap (80 cal), 1/2 cup egg whites (60 cal), strawberries (40 cal)
L:
-Veggie burger with spinach leaves (110 cal)
-serving of organic pretzels (140 cal)
-one apple and one small banana
-Kashi granola bar (150 cal)
-baby carrots
D:
-Full asian sesame chicken salad with NO wonton strips and no dressing
-half reduced sugar asian vinagerette on the side
-kashi cereal bar (110 cal)
-apple and small banana
that’s about 1330 calories
is this healthy? or too many carbs for a day off of exercise?
thanks im 17, 5’5”, and 105-106 lbs

So, I just started this diet about 3 days ago.
Basically you eat a ton of live things…(fruits, vegees, unprocessed foods- or close to it)
Basically, what I eat… 1/2 serving of whole wheat oat meal, cherries, and half a serving of snap peas for breakfast. For lunch, I have a small spinach salad with light balsamic vinigrette dressing and other vegees mixed in. For dinner, I have steamed spinach and a few oz’s of raw tuna. For snacks— geez — Banana, snap peas, negtarine, egg whites, raw spinach, and an apple. ————- That’s around 600 calories.
It’s sooo much food. The point is to basically stuff yourself with live foods… To lower your PH level… My friend followed this diet, and actually lost 10 lbs in like 15 days.
Well, I was just seeing what everyone else though of this diet… and to see who else has all tried it.
I haven’t lost any weight yet. But you are supposed to do this lil diet for about 2 weeks, stop for 3-4 days and go again..
im starting the raw foods diet, what foods can i eat other than fruits and veggies? i dont really want recipes, more like stuff around the house. thanks!
I am always starving during and after my softball game. What should I eat right before or during the game that will keep me full, but not make me feel sluggish? I’m not into eating energy bars, or fruits for the game..I want to eat real food/snacks because I have a high metabolism
Okay, so this is what I have laid out to eat tomorrow, and I’m going to stick to it. I know that the food quality isn’t that good, but it’s a h*ll of a lot better than what I had been doing before. I plan to keep in calorie range like this, and then work my way into more veggies and fruits, and only drinking plain old water. Right now I’m accostomed to taste that I’ve had my entire life, but if I can ease into it, then it won’t feel like such a big change. Understand? So don’t rag on me for the food choices. I’m looking at calories right now, and then within the next month, food quality, such as fiber, carbs, less sodium, ect.
Applesauce= 80
Sandwich(Cheese and wheat + french’s mustard)=290
mandarin orange=50
capri sun=60
lunchable=270
apple=80
veggie thin crackers=150
light string cheese=70
and then a sparkling water=0
I will be drinking tons of water throughout the day, and I have about 30mins of PE and then a vollyball game. I usually play at least one game, if not two.
I know that it’s not a lot, and compared to what I was eating it’s practically nothing, calorie wise, but I wan’t to make a difference. I’ve gone long enough being chubby. I’m 5’7" and 154lbs. I used to be 145lbs. My goal is 125-135lbs by the end of september 2010. That’s a lot, but I can do it if I have the will.
This amount of calories equal 1050(roughly), and if I eat a big breakfast, I get sick, so I ususally stick to applesauce or something and eat more in the afternoon, which might not be smart, but it’s what works.
I dont like energy drinks and stuff like that. I wanna keep it natural. What fruits, veggies, or any other type of food can i eat to give me energy for work or for my workouts?
breakfast: cereal with 2% or 1% milk
lunch: salad w/ no dressing and a veggie burgur w/ a little bit of ketchup
dinner: a salad w/ no dressing, a veggie burgur with ketchup, or a baked potatoe.
extra: at least 3 glasses of milk per day, and 2 or 3 fruits
I’m exercising doing Insanity workouts, & eating healthy, more fruits & vegetables as well as taking greens powder and a good natural multivitamin daily, I’m also taking psyllium husks, & aloe vera, to clean my colon. (for about a week) How long will it take to detox, or be toxin free, I’m 25 and have had Candida for a few years. I’m also starting a candida diet (again) & natural anti candida remedies: coconut oil, garlic, oregon oil, etc.
(I sweat a lot when I workout & drink plenty of water)
Hi gang, ok, I’m new to the Raw Food Diet and quite excited; not a lot of people around me do it so I don’t know who to ask my millions of questions until I remembered you guys… Ok, so you don’t have to eat cold foods just because they’re raw correct? i’m told not to use a microwave so where do i heat up my meals? do i pop ‘em in the oven at 100 degrees but for how long? can i freeze fruits to make sorbets? Thanks u guys.
I am VERY MUCH GRATEFUL for all the kind hearts who are taking their time to answer my questions for the past two days regarding sex and over-tirednes.
Are there any special foods to take on a DAILY BASIS to increase the sexual energy. I eat a lot of fruits and veg and also drink a lot of water. also multivitamin tablets. Are there are special foods other than these please. Thanks in advance
Do I just eat veggies and fruits how does that go?
Okay, so don’t tell me that its bad for me, and that its going to give me bacteria or anything, but I love the taste of raw hamburger. I’m considering going on a raw food diet. I’ve looked around Google and found that nuts, veggies and fruits, raw meat are part of the diet. Is it a better diet for someone who doesn’t exercise that much? Can someone exactly tell me what is in a raw food diet and what its supposed to do/is for?
I have gained 20 lbs. due to my thyroid. I am now on meds but the weight isn’t dropping. I’ve increased my activity level, but the diet is still bad. I only like simple foods like meat, breads (love the carbs!), few veggies (only cooked) like broccoli, beans, cauliflower, potatoes and few fruits (strawberries, bananas, apples, grapes). I live in a rural community now with one grocery store… I can’t even find chicken there safe enough to eat! What can I do with such limited food choices??? Health food is very scarce in the entire county here… I hate it!
I am writing up a grocery list, and I’m looking for some super healthy recipes.. We are trying to lose weight and going on the ‘Eat hardy for breakfast and light throughout the day’, ie; Mainly Veggies and Fruits.
So, I need lots of veggie and fruit recipes, Also some healthy hardy breakfast choices.
The veggie, fruit recipes, don’t have to be just veggies and fruit mixed or something.. Try Creative. And we can use Meat, ie; Chicken turkey and beef..
Thank you for your help!
16, female, 5 foot 7 inches, 181lbs. (Fat, I know, I know. At least I’m trying.)
I finally saved enough money with my job to afford a treadmill. I used to run at the park but I didn’t do it often because I hated going outside and running. Now I have a treadmill inside so I’ll be working out more often…any tips?
So far I’m going about 15 mins at 2.5mph each time, and I do that around 10 times a day. According to my treadmill that means I burn around ~600 cals a day. I really want to have my goal around ~1500 cals a day, so I started lifting 5lb weights while I walk, but I don’t know how much that is helping. I also brought up the incline on the tredmill a little.
My diet is mostly vegetables, with the bulk of it being white rice (Around 50%) and the rest are steamed vegetables and for one meal a day I eat some meat, usually a little bit of fish. I wrap my rice in seaweed because I like the taste of it…I’m avoiding cooking oils and fats completely so everything is steamed or baked, or toasted.
I’m eating lots of fruits, though. Maybe an apple and some figs, or a few mangoes/avocado on my rice.
I’m only drinking water and maybe once a day a half cup of cranberry juice or the green super food drink that I have in the morning.
I don’t go to school so I don’t eat the greasy fat foods they serve at schools.
Any tips on my regime? I’ve been doing this for about a week now, no significant weight loss so I’m not sure if I’m doing something wrong or maybe not enough working out.
Any recipes that are mainly rice and vegetables will ago be greatly loved! They don’t have to be delicious, just edible.
Wow, I didn’t know that about rice!
I’ll cut out most of the rice and replace it with just lots of water.
2lb a week should be normal for this workout plan? I lost 1.5lb this week so I guess that’s good. :)
The workout don’t really tire me out since I only go for around 15 minutes each, and I usually do something like listen to music or watch TV while I’m walking….
Thanks Dave H,
I’m taking protien supplements once a day, but at the same time I’m trying to avoid all the chemicals I hear are in store-bought meat. My dad is a fisherman so I do eat wild fish at least once a day…other than that I don’t really like how red meat tastes so I don’t eat it much.
I do try to keep my protein intake up with the supplements, since I know I need it. I also take coral calcium tablets which I believe has soy protein in it as well.
