Hey I have a 10 mo. old Great Dane who has had allergies issues since he was 4 mo. after ruling out every common allergy and several hundred dollar later. It was decided he has a food allergy to certain proteins. Which one we don’t know yet. he has been put on a vegetarian diet by our vet and I began feeding him Dr.Harvey’s Canine health 2 wks. ago. But I’m not sure what he needs to keep him health. Without a protein source like chicken or turkey he acts like he’s starving all the time. I give him beans or tofu as a protein source and several oils but I really need to know a good recipe to feed him daily using the canine health that is balanced and keeps him full. He’s fed twice a day around 3-4 cups each feeding. Thanks

i just read something new, that some marathorners eat energy bars at the 70 % stage or so of their run

Now this does not seem natural – because how can you eat and run at the same time, but it seems logical, because 70 %is the point where you need a push.

But id rather go for a drink. What gives more energy, a gatorade or a simple mix of glucose D and water.
to sweeny – thanks for the advice, however, i dont think the chicken part the night before a run is a good idea.

read ‘fit for life’ by the ‘diamonds’ they have described very accurately how carbs secrete alkaline juices for digestion, protiens secrete acidic juices for digestion, and when carbs and proteins are eaten together, suddenly you have 2 kinds of juices which nuetralize each other, and ….bad luck, your food will not digest.

i used to eat a tandoori chicken and naan and wonder what went wrong when i went to sleep on the track, now i know. Eat veg and carbs before a workout, build on strength – protein on your rest days

After having my baby, I am thinking of becoming a raw food vegan. Is this healthy? How can I get my daily proteins by eating only raw veggies? Can a true vegan eat fish for protein?

Thanks.

I am quite familiar with healthy eating, raw foodism, and nutrition (working on a B.S. in nutritional science) though my question needs to be answered by someone with far more insight than myself. I understand what enzymes are, how they work, and am a believer in both digestive therapeutic applications. I am also a fan of the raw food diet for the clean, simple, and ‘living’ factor, but cringe when I read about raw foodists ‘selling’ the notion that eating raw foods will increase enzyme activity in the body. As far as I know, our body starts producing enzymes in the form of amylase as soon as we begin to salivate for food. The harsh environment of the stomach denatures most proteins, which includes enzymes. How can we say that the enzymes are still in tact in the stomach on top of saying that they are ready and willing to help break down the foods that they let sit so nicely in front of us before they were consumed?
Thanks you guys, but just so you know, this is less of a personal question, and more of a scientific one. Also, I am not speaking about the consumption of raw meat, but about that of vegetables and/or dairy products
