So I was asking around and decided raw food diets were better. Does anyone know where I can find a book on the prey model diet or any other raw food diet? Please no books on BARF. I think BARF is stupid and rather not use that method.

So I saw a little blurb about an episode of "wife swap" where some kids on a raw food diet were given a cooked meal and felt very very ill.

My question is whether or not anyone on this diet will feel violently ill if they eat a "regular" meal? Can a teenager go out on a date and have a piece of pizza? If this is the case, how do parents handle it if the kids feel the diet is crimping their social life? Or is it somehow easier for teens to deal with this than I imagine?

Ok i just asked a question about raw dog food diet for my boerboel and i got some rly good answers. But i also own a 3yr old golden retriever who weighs 80lbs that i would like to switch onto this raw food diet. So when you guys were sayin 2-3% of my dog’s ideal body weight what does that mean? and where would i buy organ meat and bone meat? thank you :)
Also i do know that dogs don’t need veggies and grains really and i am going to feed them based on a prey-model diet

I am hopefully getting a cat (or two) in a few weeks, and I’ve been reading about raw food diets for cats. It seems like a great idea but I’m not sure I’ll be able to afford it. Is it expensive to keep cats on a raw food diet? Also, is it necessary to shop at a butcher, or is supermarket meat okay for cats?

I have a 8yr old chocolate lab. He’s overweight by probally 2 pounds and has bad yeast infections in both of his ears.He plays ball and walks outside for about 20 mins a day. We put medicine in his ears about twice a week and have even tried feeding him yogurt but nothing helps. I heard that the raw food diet is more natural for the dogs and will solve all his problems in time…fact or fiction?

In about two week I, along with my mum will start a raw food diet eg no meat, bread, pasta etc..

I’m 15 and my family HAS done it before, I was just much younger the last time…

But if I go to the gym for half and hour x 6 days a week, will I lose weight quickly? Like just the raw food diet alone?

I heard about the BARF (bones and raw food) diet a while back, and initially thought it was a good idea – what could be better than feeding simple things that a wolf would find in the wild?

BUT I now have doubts, and I think this is actually quite a dangerous thing to believe in (although I’d be happy if someone could explain it to me differently, as I like the idea of this diet). I think it’s perfect for cats, first of all, because cats are pure carnivores. They don’t need any of the rubbish they put in cat food. But for dogs…

Dogs are omnivores like us. They need carbohydrate. Feed a human on nothing but meat and we’ll live for, what, 20 years if that (and be very unhealthy). There’s a reason why dog food is not the same as cat food. Feed a dog on cat food and it will become ill because there isn’t enough carbohydrate.

I suggest that maybe modifications need to be made. I intend to feed my future dog on the BARF diet, but supplemented with carbohydrate.
Wasn’t enough room to put this, but people often incorrectly assume that what a dog eats in the wild is the best possible thing for it to eat in captivity. Wild canines do not fulfill the same life expectancy as captive ones – they eat to survive, not to be healthy, and as long as they survive long enough to reproduce then their genes will be passed on.

Dogs are omnivores. 34 years in vet tech and you don’t know that? Their teeth are different from pure carnivores. They do need a diet that is mostly meat but supplemented with carbohydrates. Their tooth structure is similar to that of apes – which are omnivores.

Before dog food was around, dogs didn’t live that long.

And dogs are different from wolves, totally different although they are the same species – and different kinds of dog need slightly different diets (some are prone to obesity etc). But the basic diet is the same. However as I said above, what an animal eats in the wild is not necessarily the best for them. Take iguanas for example – in the wild they sometimes feed on meat. Feed them meat in captivity and you lower their life expectancy drastically. But even so, wolves in the wild eat berries and fruit. Not much carbohydrate, but a little is essential.

So, no potatoes. No cow products. No rice (no rice flower or anything with rice). I can have wild salmon and meat/chicken occasionally.

My doctor put me on this whack diet because I have chronic lyme disease, and I got to be on the whole raw food diet, but a little more stricter.

I’m starting a raw food diet on monday and I’ve read tons of articles and spoken to a fair few people that have a raw food diet but I was just wondering if someone who has been on the raw food diet or still eats just raw could give me an example of a typical days menu. Breakfast, lunch, dinner and maybe drinks and a snack or two. Just so I know I’m on the right track.

and i was told by someone "if you have a total raw food diet you shouldn’t cook your food over 118 degrees because it destroys the vitamins and enzymes" but isn’t it then cooked so its not a total raw food diet!!!!

I have six dogs (ages 10 years,8 years,5 years,4 years,3.5 years, and 8 months). Five boys and one girl (don’t think that would matter for this, as well as the fact they’re all spayed and neutered). From oldest to youngest we have a Beagle/Basset mix, a Shepherd/Husky mix, a Lab/Golden Retriever mix, a Pit/Boxer mix, a Border Collie, and a Bloodhound/Ridgeback mix. I really want to start them on a raw food diet, but am not finding much on line about how to start, and recipes. I know there are a lot of raw food advocates on here and I was wondering where to begin.

i started the raw food diet a few days ago, and i feel hungry constantly. i know fruits and vegetables are way less calories than other foods, but i feel like i’m eating so much and im not going to lose any weight. is this normal?

does anybody else do a home-prepared dog food diet? I’ve been reading up on what is actually in commercial dog food, and its really gross and unhealthy. I have been reading into home-prepared dog food diets, and i was wondering if anybody else does that? and NO, i do NOT mean a raw food diet.
