So this is my 3rd kitten-related post. I’m working in Bulgaria until next year and I would like to feed my kitten raw foods, however there aren’t supplements in my small town. I doubt there are supplements even in the big cities here. I have access to chicken hearts, livers, breasts, ground beef, chicken wings, sliced pork, processed pork/beef mix (like kofte), sausages, and obviously eggs and dairy. He was a Bulgarian orphaned kitten who has been raised on mother’s milk so far I think.
My question is this: can I raise Tabs (his name) to optimal health with a raw food diets that doesn’t include the supplements that are always present in the BARF recipes? I don’t think asking for Taurine or Omega-3 fatty acids from my local vet will accomplish much.
Raw and natural is the way to go and I’d think just the meat would help Tabs develop the way he was meant to, but what’s the deal with the supplements? I trust REAL and WHOLE foods more than some corporations processed garbage loaded with carbs, I don’t care who it is.
I have a cat and two kittens, aside from the mother cat I’m fostering for the local shelter. My cat, Tigger, is a Maine Coon Cat that weighs 16 pounds. In some cases that can be a healthy weight for Maine Coons but she’s extreamly fat and none of the conventional diet food have worked for her, not even the vet recommended Medi-Cal. I’ve been doing research on BARF (Bones & Raw Food) diets thinking maybe that the lack of preservatives might do her some good. What do you think?
I am hopefully getting a cat (or two) in a few weeks, and I’ve been reading about raw food diets for cats. It seems like a great idea but I’m not sure I’ll be able to afford it. Is it expensive to keep cats on a raw food diet? Also, is it necessary to shop at a butcher, or is supermarket meat okay for cats?
hi im looking for Raw food diets that are safe for Dogs ( german sheps in particular) cuz i would like to look into the raw food diets…. if u could give me facts, info and recipes. i would greatly appriciate it :D
I have been searching and found that raw food diets are good for worker dogs. My siberian is mainly a house dog. Anyone know where I can find more information on this?
Hi, I love my dog more than anything, and I want to him to live a long, happy, healthy life.
Of course, one of the most important things when it comes to health is an adequate, well-balanced diet.
So… I am thinking about alternating my pit bulls’ kibble diet with raw meat and vegetables, so I am doing research on the matter.
I was wondering how many (if any) of you feed your APBTs raw food diets and what your thoughts on the matter are.
Advice, tips, suggestions, links, recipes, preparation steps, and any other information you are willing to provide would be greatly obliged.
Thanks for your time.
I would like to start my 5 month old pitt-bull mix on a raw food diet. Does anyone have a recipe or know of a web-site that they know is good? I googled and came up with tons of sites but I hate using just any recipe, I’d rather use something that others have tried! also most raw food diets are a basic recipe, is there any changes that need to be made because Max is a puppy?
I would like to do an all raw diet, I found one for my cats that I will be starting in the next few weeks: www.catinfo.org that is raw chicken legs ground up with some added supplements. would this recipe work for dogs too? thanks for your help!
I was all excited about trying the raw food diet with my dog. She is so finiky with all food I though the raw food was a perfect option. Well…just to see what happens I tried some raw hamburger meat…plus she is taking meds an this is a perfect way to give it to her. Well, to make a long story short, she didn’t like raw meat. I was shocked. If I warm the meat a little in the microwave, she eats it…raw she turns her head.
Is this strange. Do you think this will mean she won’t like the raw food diets?
Having such a hard time with her food. She WON’T touch kibble. I don’t want to resort to that crappy cheap food.
Any other ideas?
I’ve heard a lot about raw food diets recently and I’m just wondering do they actually work,i mean can they cure and prevent all diseases?and do they give you more energy and some how improve your mental health?I’ve heard stories of raw food diets some how curing people of cancer and such and then others saying its a complete load of crap
so what I’m trying to ask is is it worth my while to start a raw food diet?
Preferably made by a real nutritionist, with recipes, no more than 1200 calories, and low glycemic. I read a book extolling the virtues of this kind of diet, but it didn’t have a daily menu. It’s very hard to get started on such an unusual diet without a menu and recipes.
The most important thing to me is that the diet was designed by a nutrition professional. There are too many diets out there made by doctors with phds that have nothing to do with nutrition. Also, raw food diets are plagued by spiritual "gurus" who often don’t have any appropriate education in nutrition at all.
I’ve read that raw food diets are soo benifical for inflammtroy disorders and such because of their food enzymes that they restore the body with… But I read an article saying how that the stomach acid destorys the enzymes in your stomach and so none gets absorbed, and they had a reasrch study done saying a very tiny minute amount gets reaborbed… Can someone clarify this for me?
Some people atribute a detox diet and fresh alkaline water to longevity and anti-aging. You can read up on the subject, but it does makes perfect sense that a healthy detox diet menu will help you feel and look younger.

So, you are still not sure if the Raw Food Diet is right for you? Well keep reading this article and you will soon know your answer. We will talk about the health and anti aging benefits of eating raw food and include sample recipes and menu plans for you to try.
The benefits of going on a Raw Food Diet include weight loss, healthier skin and anti aging, reduction in the risk of heart disease and diabetes, longer life-span, and you will become a lot more energetic.
A Raw Food Diet is a vegetarian diet; this means the diet will not consist of eating raw meat like steak. A Raw Food Diet essentially includes vegetables, fruit, raw seeds and nuts, unprocessed whole grains, dairy products that are unpasteurized, vegetable and fruit juices that have been freshly squeezed.
Are you thinking this diet does not give you many options? Many people who go on the Raw Food Diet have said they do find a variety of foods to eat. However, keep in mind that preparing these meals can be timely.
An example of a popular meal that follows the Raw Food Diet includes vegetables that are topped with a raw vegetable sauce. Does this sound good? Here is how you make it:
1. Slice a zucchini spirally into long and thin slices.
2. Put a chopped onion (white), 1 pound fresh tomatoes, 1 clove garlic (minced), basil, chopped red pepper (fresh), and 2 teaspoons of natural pizza seasoning in a food processor and blend until all ingredients are mixed.
3. Pour the ingredients over the pasta
That recipe is proof that not all Raw Food Diet recipes are hard and timely to prepare. Do you want even more examples? Here is an example of a daily food plan for the Raw Food Diet:
Breakfast – you may have up to two pounds of raw fruit juices or even whole fruit, if you are still hungry and really want a snack during the day you can have some sliced avocados or a handful of raw nuts.
Lunch – you can have a salad with 75% consisting of greens, and the dressing can only be freshly squeezed lemon.
Dinner – you can have a spinach salad that includes 10-20 almonds, 1-2 avocados, and a freshly squeezed orange for the dressing. For dinner you should also have 10-20 ounces of vegetable of fruit juice; freshly squeezed of course.
