I’ve been a vegan for a while now, but I’d like to make raw foods more central to my diet. I try to eat all my snacks and one meal or so a day raw (or high raw; I’m not especially strict), and so far I feel great!

The problem is: I’m getting a bit sick of the same old smoothies, salads, and homemade Larabars though and would like to follow some new raw food blogs to get inspiration.

I already follow ChoosingRaw.com and Rawmazing.com.

I don’t own a juicer or dehydrator as of right now, so the simpler recipes the better!

Any suggestions?

One of my best friends has Crohn’s. He cannot eat raw foods, such as: vegetables, fruits and nuts. He also has trouble with dairy and some starchy-carbs. Such foods cause "flare-ups" of his Crohn’s. Pretty much the only food he has no trouble digesting is meat.

What kind of recipes can be prepared for him?

I’m seriously considering doing the raw diet for my dogs. I’ve read many a web page on the topic and I think I get the basic idea of how to go about it, but unfortunately, most of the sites were raw food retailers who sell in bulk and were pushing me to use their product and only gave me guidelines for the use of their product- nothing about how to do it on my own. I have a wonderful Italian market in my locale that sells every part of the animal you can think of, and at low prices. I think the average cost of a whole lamb liver is .50, and about the same price for gizzards and other body parts such as pigs feet and snouts. They also sell their meats at a great price (chicken is usually around per pound). So the tools are there, I just need to implement them. Can anyone reccommend a good online resource for a homemade raw diet? Or perhaps you prepare homemade raw foods for your pets and have valuable recipes/advice? I also have questions about feeding veggies- which ones are acceptable and do they have to be steamed before consumption (some sites say yes because steaming them brings out all the nutrients, but other sites say no because technically it’s no longer raw)? And is mixing in rice a good idea, and if so, which type of rice is best to use? And I’m kind of worried about feeding bones because while all the raw sites say it’s good to do that, many of my friends who have worked in a vet clinic before say that most of the dogs on a raw diet came in with torn intestines from the bones peices. Logic tells me they should be OK, but I’ve been scared by one to many people to just let this go without asking someone who has had succes with the raw diet. As always, any help is much appreciated and links are wonderful!

Alright, due to medical recommendations, I’m removing animal products from my diet. I’m not going the unhealthy meat substitute route where you eat a bunch of gross processed mock-meat foods. I’ve been eating mostly fruit and veggies (variety of deep leafy greens, etc), making sure to get in B12, taking a vitamin supplement and tofu for protein. What cookbooks and recipes would you recommend for a vegan? Also, any opinions on raw foods?

I was hoping to get an answer from someone who has experience in this. I have a couple questions about feeding raw foods to my puppy. Is it safe? Is it really better for her than the crappy commercial food like Science Diet and Why?? How do I get started? I read I have to make it balanced and complete, How? Should I be using some sort of vitamin supplements as well? Which meats, veggies and fruits are best? Which things should I NOT be feeding her( ex. onions) ? Is there anything else I should know before considering this? Can you recommend a good site with some sort of recipes or something? Thanks, A best answer will be awarded if there is one :)
I would talk to my vet, but she thinks science diet is best.. Its crap. It contains corn and soy meal, and barely any meat. Dogs have trouble with this because they cant digest it well. Making them appear full, but it is not healthy, I have researched brands that are supposed to be good for her but I have no way of getting them. I am on an army base in Germany and cant find a place that will ship the food to apo. So my options are feeding her brands like science diet, purina, and iams, Or making her food so I know its not crap.

I am trying to go vegetarian and eventually vegan but for now i am trying to at least incorporate more vegetarian and vegan meals in my diet. I also like to try to incorporate some raw foods in my diet. However I have no idea what to do for meals. I am not very creative when it comes to food and I do not want to only be eating salads and veggie sticks but I have no idea how to be creative when it comes to veggies

Next month my sister and i are going to go on a "cleansing diet" We won’t eat anything processed or refined, basically anything man-made. Basically for the month my sister and i will be jogging first thing every morning, doing a lot of detox things i have in my detox book, drinking lots of water and twice a week going raw vegan. I already don’t eat eggs, dairy and any meat but seafood (I don’t live near the ocean so i eat it quite rarely) so i am already very familiar with vegan cooking and recipes but am having some trouble finding raw food options. i live in China so i am unable to get raw nuts or seeds (there are no health food stores and if there are i have no idea how to find them). I also am not a huge fan of raw vegetables but i am hoping this month will help me get used to them. I also do not have a dehydrator or a spiralizer, only a blender. I really need some simple recipes that are not too extreme so i can start getting more used to raw foods. Thank you for any recipes!
Also i cannot get avocado here.
Oh and berries are too expensive.

Hey, I’m 15 and I’m a year round runner for my high school and I’m strong in this sport and am very competitive. I’ve just recently heard of the raw food diet and how it can help an athlete’s strength and endurance, as well as help lose excess fat. Tonight I’ve spent a long time researching this diet and figuring out how it may effect me, but want more of a direct response. I don’t eat unhealthily and completely stay away from fast food, so I’m not doing this to lose any weight, but to specifically increase my performance level (strength, endurance). I would like to know the following :
1) Would beginning the diet decrease my performance level the first few days, as I’m detoxing?
2) Are there any specific health risks, mentally or physically? [I'm going to NOT specifically eat only raw foods, for I am a teen and don't really have the money to spend on super foods, organic, etc. I will eat pasta and cooked foods but very scarcely. For example, to sustain energy needed for running I will make a plate of pasta and top it off with many raw veggies and nuts. Also, I can make salads and top it off with nuts, to sustain my protein intake.]
3) Should I stay away from milk, eggs and cheese?
4) Are there any supplements I should be taking, such as calcium, etc.?
5) Why must raw fruits be eaten in moderation? [I want to become serious about this diet and try it out for at least a week, for I've researched this and have seen people with great results, and I heard it can increase my strength and endurance, for I am competitive.] But right now I’ve realized this isn’t REALLY a raw food diet, for I won’t only be eating raw foods, but I will try to stay away from cooked foods except for pasta. Are there any tips or affordable recipes I can use, such as smoothies or juices. And I won’t be using more than 117 degrees F of heat on my food, for I heard that the food can quickly lose nutritional value. So can anyone tell me about their experience if they’ve gone through this, and whether my ideas for the diet are correct? I’d really appreciate it! THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU! ♥

I started on the 7 day soup diet, and am not eating the soup but following the plan. It’s basically no sugar or flour as well. Since I’m taking hydroxycut, exercising, and consuming less than 1000 calories a day.
I’ve been basically on raw foods for the past few days, and tomorrow I am finally allowed to eat beef. up to 20oz of it actually. I don’t think i’ll be able to eat that much. Maybe some for dinner. I’m obviously getting 90% lean ground beef.

Anyway I’m not looking for advice on dieting I know what I’m doing. I just want a creative meal for beef and vegetables I guess.
I know what I’m doing because I’ve tried these type of diets before with success. They work for me that’s why I’m using them to jumpstart my healthy eating plan. I’m also taking a multivitamin, bee pollen, royal jelly. And I hike or walk everyday. You ever hear of fasting?? This is a super cleanse for my body, and I’m also trying to keep the no flour no sugar system because it works! Thanks for everyone else who supplied a recipe.

I’ve read good words on the raw diet.It sounds great, cats evolved to eat meat & you can be sure that they are get proper nutrition assuming you get a proper recipe.

My vet’s against raw diets b/c of the risk for bacterial infection.I understand.I’m a medical student and even the human stomach’s pH can go down to 1 during digestion, but raw foods are also risky for humans.

Assuming that I am careful with the source of the meat (I’m thinking of whole rabbit carcass cut into chewable pieces, much of the bacterial infection is from grinding meat and mixing meat from an infected animal with meat from other animals), storage, and get a proper recipe, is this ideal compared to highly respected cat food brands like Wellness?

What were the opinions your vets had?

What have you found helpful? Just like human medicine, vets are trained to use commerical products like meds and Rx foods. Little education is given about preventative nutrition. Have you had any useful reads on nutrition?

Okay so earlier this year I started to have really weird dreams. After about two weeks I wrote down what I saw in my dreams and to me it felt like past life related sort of. So I started to do a lot of spiritual things like learn how to astral travel, meditation, the use of ki and the list goes on. It felt great and I wanted to live like this because I thought soon enough I could be connected with me subconscious better.

One thing I was reading about is that if you stop eating cooked foods and meat your spiritual vibration rises up intensely. So i started to do this and nobody in my family understands because i never told them about me being spiritually connected. Also this food diet includes that you ONLY eat raw foods fruits and vegetables and thats it along with milk too. Do you have any suggestions of how i can explain this?

Yes, I did already ask this but no one really answered my question…please don’t tell me I shouldn’t switch my cat’s diet as it is neccessary for my one cat’s health as 1 is sick because of the commercial food.

I have been thinking about switching my cats to a raw diet for quite some time. Since I’m going to be getting a dog soon, I’ve decided there is no better time than now to really work towards switching them to a new diet. I do have a couple of questions though…first of all, if I am understanding the information I have read so far correctly cats have much more extensive nutritional needs than dogs…this slightly freaks me out as I’m afraid I won’t supplement their raw diet correctly. So look online I found this pre-mix for raw foods it’s called alnutrin, does anyone know anything about this? Do you think it is quality? You have to add raw meet and water that’s it. It’s fairly cheap w/o shipping and says it makes 32 pounds of food.
Also, I can’t find anything like this for dogs…is it because it isn’t necessarily needed? Can anyone recommend a pre-mix of quality for raw diets for dogs?

Ok first of all…the reason I want to change my cats diet is because they have been eating commercial cat food which is terrible for them, my senior cat is pre-diabetic and needs to lose some weight.
Second, my cats have been exposed to dogs because I believe in socializing my animals to people and other animals…really who doesn’t do this?
Third, I think you can make homemade kibble and that’s what I would be interested in doing…PLEASE ANY RECIPE is greatly appreciated.

Hi! My fiance and I want to try a raw food diet. We aren’t looking at permanently become vegan or vegetarian, but we do want to experiences a raw food diet. We are both graduates from culinary school, and both very passionate about food. I think that raw food is a growing part of our society, and as such we should have a working understanding of raw foods. I have been doing quite a bit of research, but I want to hear opinions from people who actually live this way. How long would be a reasonable amount of time to try a raw food diet for? Can you give me an example of what you might eat in a normal day? Is transitioning to a raw food diet difficult/expensive? What difference has it made in your life? Any and all experiences you would like to share would be great!! Thank you so much for your help.

I am not a spiritual person, but I was on a raw food for a diet a month or so and I regretfully got off. It was an amazing experience, the way I felt overall was great even my senses seemed heightened. I ask here because I figured some religious people might be into fasting or similar diets. My plan is to go on 30 days juice fast and transition into raw foods.

So this is my 3rd kitten-related post. I’m working in Bulgaria until next year and I would like to feed my kitten raw foods, however there aren’t supplements in my small town. I doubt there are supplements even in the big cities here. I have access to chicken hearts, livers, breasts, ground beef, chicken wings, sliced pork, processed pork/beef mix (like kofte), sausages, and obviously eggs and dairy. He was a Bulgarian orphaned kitten who has been raised on mother’s milk so far I think.

My question is this: can I raise Tabs (his name) to optimal health with a raw food diets that doesn’t include the supplements that are always present in the BARF recipes? I don’t think asking for Taurine or Omega-3 fatty acids from my local vet will accomplish much.

Raw and natural is the way to go and I’d think just the meat would help Tabs develop the way he was meant to, but what’s the deal with the supplements? I trust REAL and WHOLE foods more than some corporations processed garbage loaded with carbs, I don’t care who it is.

i have a 9month old GSD and i wanted to put him on raw foods, but its just way too confusing for me. He weighs over 60lbs now, so how do i know how much to give him? does anyone have any recipes with exact measurements that i can use? (instead of 80% veggies, and 10% meat, 10% grains, as some people like to put it…. i want ozs, lbs, cups ect)

i feed him Canidea, and im pretty happy with it. But dogs have been eating raw food since the dawn off time, and i figure its probably the best thing for him at this point

i was advised to eat raw foods for one week to detoxify my body due. just wondering, approx. how much weight is expected to be lost if it is done for a whole week?
