I’m going to a restaurant tonight that serves several raw dishes. I’ve heard from some academia and scientists in relevant fields that raw-foodism does have it’s health benefits but is often taken too far and can lead to health concerns. I’m wondering what, is any, raw food dishes I’d like to avoid?
Naturally, no raw meat. But I mean other dishes?

Purchase Fat Burning Diet

Does anyone here feed their kitties a homemade diet? My cat seems to like cooked fish and shrimp a lot. I’m feeding my cat canned food and he is getting pickier by the day. The recipes that I’m reading contain a lot of rice to bulk up the recipe. In addition, lots of the pages that I’ve seen seem to recommend raw, which I’m a little worried about due to the bacterial issue (there’s also the issue that I’m vegetarian myself and I have problem dealing and buying raw meat but I’ll get over it).

I have a 3 year old chihuahua who i have recently put on the BARF diet.
What i would like to know is a little about the diet, like:
How it helps them?
Why its preferable over kibble?
Maybe some recipes?
Would i need to mix vegetables in it also? As otherwise he would be eating protein and nothing else?
Should i still give him kibble as well as Bones and Raw meat?
Can i feed him raw fish as well as meat?
And some additional info would be great, thanks

Has anyone else had their dogs on this diet?
How did you transition them from kibble food to raw meat?
How much do I feed a 40 lb boxer, and a 60 lb pit bull
What are the pros and cons of this diet for your dogs?
I know threre are alot of questions, but I just want to make sure it is entirely healthy for them to eat raw food. These are my babies =)
Another thing, is it cheaper than kibble food and if not, what is the cheapest recipes you can recommend,

So.. I know I’ve asked similar questions like this before. Don’t go spastic on me lol(:
Anyway, something I always forgot to mention in my previous questions was that my dog refuses to eat any raw meat. If I want her to eat it, it has to be cooked. I usually have to boil it.
Although I just don’t trust raw diets, I have tried them with no success. She just WON’T eat them. I’ve had so many people tell me on here to feed raw when my dog just refuses.
Plus I’m getting fed up with commercial dog food, which I have fed for years, and almost all my dogs have had some sort of health issue.
And, if I make sure to balance it and add supplements, would it be safe to use Raw or B.A.R.F. recipes and just substitute cooked instead?
I CAN feed raw bones, but last time I did, my dog almost got internal damage because they splintered, but fortunately no damage was done because she threw them up the same night. (They were sharp too because I accidentally stepped on one and cut my foot).
Thanks in Advance(:

I’m reading up on BARF diet recipes, and i’m wondering whether these supplements are really needed. Isn’t raw meat and organs alone enough for wild cats and dogs?
I also found out about the raw meaty bones (RMB) diet, which I think makes more sense than the BARF

My dog, Boo, a ten pound pap may have food allergies. I say this because she allways itchy, and no fleas to be found. Because the cost of special food is irritating, and I don’t know what I’m getting, I want to feed her "real" food.

My thought is to brown some ground turkey/beef/whatever, throw it in a blender with a little water and some raw veggies, and freeze in ice-cube trays. Then I can pop out cubes, thaw, and feed along with some (brown?) rice as filler (got the idea from my trainer tonight.) I don’t know how much of anything to throw in, though.

Should I cook the veggies? Add garlic as flea repelent? Any recipe I plan to run by my vet, first, but does anyone have one? Raw diet is not so grand an idea for me, as I don’t like having raw meat around and the food-cube idea sounds fairly easy in terms of feedeing and prep.

Also, what are the most common canine food allergies? I want to know what to avoid.

how long have you been feeding raw to your dog?
which raw diet are you on ? ( BARF meat and bone kibble & raw ? )
have you or your dog gotten any illness attributed to raw meat?
did you notice any change in your dog since feeding raw?
and how much would it cost to feed 3 60-75 lbs dogs and a 6 lb cat ?
dose your vet have anything to say about your choice for your dogs diet?
also has you vet said anything about your dog thats attributed to raw? ( like if hes noticedd a change etc etc etc)
and any other helpfull advice would be appreciated

I know many people who feed their dog the BARF diet. It’s healthier, cleaner/shinier coat, they feel better, and they live longer.

Seeing this, I’ve thought of a ‘people raw food diet’. What WE would eat in the wild. Fruits, veggies, cooked meats, no dairy, sugars, or processed foods.

Don’t you think we’d feel just as good as our dogs?
Has anyone else thought about doing this?
Some of you need to re-read my details. I never said raw meat in the first place. Read thoroughly before answering, please!
Thanks, Bonslyar! :) Great links! That’s so interesting! I shiver at the thought of raw eggs, though. >_< Lol.

I’m in the process of changing my dog’s diet to include 1 meal per day that has raw meat. For example, tonight she had raw steak mixed with small portions of shredded raw spinich, carrot, broccoli, a few cooked green peas, some cottage cheese, and a few diced peaches. I vary the veggies and fruit depending on what we’re having, but the meat so far has always been steak. I plan to introduce raw salmon next week. She’s a chihuahua so cost isn’t a factor. So far, her allergies seem to have disappeared and she LOVES her evening meal with us. Her other meal is Orijen, a super premium dry food.

My question: I see so many comments from raw feeders who use primarily chicken. I worry about bacteria in raw chicken and pork. Do you feed chicken primarily because it costs less, or is there some fundamental reason dogs need it? There’s chicken (cooked) in her dry food, shouldn’t that be enough?

Thanks in advance, and don’t tell me that wolves eat dead rats, I don’t own a wolf. (lol)

Hi,

At the moment we’re feeding our cats Tuna & raw meat. They seem to be thriving on it really well. They are active, don’t get sick much, accept for the occassional cold.

We also have used in the past regular store bought dry cat food. They were ok with that accept a bit chubbier.

Which do you feed your cat & why? Is it better to give them store bought food?

Thank you.

Thanks.

I was wondering about the benefits and deficits of a raw food diet for my cat, considering that in nature cats would eat raw meat. I am aware of the risks for parasites and I know that livestock and dogs eat certain plants that rid them of stomach parasites, particularly clover because it contains tannins. I also know that cranberries contain tannins and have recently been added to many commercial cat foods, but because cats are carnivores I am unsure to whether or not they would be able to digest the fruit. Also, this website has a recipe for raw cat food and I was wondering if it is correct: www.wikihow.com/Make-Raw-Cat-Food . I would inform my veterinarian of this decision before I enacted it but just was curious.

Okay, so don’t tell me that its bad for me, and that its going to give me bacteria or anything, but I love the taste of raw hamburger. I’m considering going on a raw food diet. I’ve looked around Google and found that nuts, veggies and fruits, raw meat are part of the diet. Is it a better diet for someone who doesn’t exercise that much? Can someone exactly tell me what is in a raw food diet and what its supposed to do/is for?

IM A TEEN NOT AN ADULT. FYI
i wanna go a diet, but i recently found this diet called the rawfood diet.
but as i did my reserch it says that raw foods are NOT good for bones. something like bone strength and marrow.
i would never eat raw meat, but are raw fruits and vegetables ok?
or will they weaken my bones?
i just wanna know how is this possible, and is there any other diet that works.

I was watching ‘wife swap’ the other day and there was a family on the show that only ate a raw food diet. And i mean everything was raw, their meat, eggs, they didn’t drink water or milk but the milk fat from their cows and they even aged the raw meat in glass jars. Is this a healthy diet or is this family taking it too far?

I am thinking about starting my two dogs on a raw food diet. I have a yorkie and german shepherd. I dont know how much to feed them. Also, is raw food safe? I dont want them to get sick or get a disease. Please tell me what kind of raw meat I can feed them. What parts are acceptable, and where to get them. I usually just go to walmart or sams club to get meats. Thank you:)

as most raw meat proteins have some degree of bacteria/virus or parasite how do you best prevent them from getting these infections from their diet? ie. Trichanosis from pork, parasite worms from fish etc.

I’ve done a lot of research about the raw food diet for dogs and I see no reason not to do it. Most kibble is processed with preservatives, artificial coloring/flavoring, animal "meal" which is not meat by the way, fillers like corn and soy, heat baked which takes out most nutrients- and so on and if its the higher end kibbles yea they’re healthier but how are they healthier than a balanced raw diet?…Yea there are certain things that you cannot feed your dog with this diet but all it take is a little research into it to discover whats good and bad…I dont get it. What do you think? And to set the record straight-chicken bones are FINE for dogs as long as they are RAW- not cooked in any way..
lol I’m talking about kibble vs. raw meat/veggies diet
chicken bones do not splinter when raw..

Hi, I love my dog more than anything, and I want to him to live a long, happy, healthy life.
Of course, one of the most important things when it comes to health is an adequate, well-balanced diet.
So… I am thinking about alternating my pit bulls’ kibble diet with raw meat and vegetables, so I am doing research on the matter.

I was wondering how many (if any) of you feed your APBTs raw food diets and what your thoughts on the matter are.

Advice, tips, suggestions, links, recipes, preparation steps, and any other information you are willing to provide would be greatly obliged.

Thanks for your time.

To be honest, I had never even heard about feeding dogs a raw diet before. But, since I asked a question about changing my chihuahua’s current food on here and several people seemed to support it, I’m curious now.

The whole thing seems a little odd to me; how is feeding a completely raw diet to a chihuahua viewed by vets; are they going to think I’m crazy when I take her for a check up and I say I feed her raw meat? Is it only suggested for larger dog breeds, or can my 8lb chihuahua benefit from it too? And most importantly: what are the negatives/risks? I have plenty of links already, I just want some opinions from those who have tried this on their dog.

Oh, and how do you all feel about Science Diet dog food instead? I’ve heard that it is really good for them, but I don’t really know for certain. Thanks!
Thank you all for the answers! I forgot to ask one thing, though: what about the bones? I thought you were never supposed to let your dog chew on chicken bones because they can splinter and cause digestive issues. How are they supposed to eat bones and avoid this? Thanks.
