I have been looking in to (and starting the dog) feed a barf diet to my dogs and cats…my dogs have always gotten raw soup bones and pig ears. and they get most table scraps, mixed with kibble…
however after we lost our male cat at the young age of 4 to a bladder blockage…i have been looking in to feeding our other male and new female cat a raw diet…the vet told me that indoor fixed male cats get it more often then say a fixed male barn cat would. my mother also loss her indoor unaltered male cat a week before we lost ours(same food fed). So the more i looked the more i belamed the food companies that claim they care.
also the male cat is VERY over weight. and the dogs are chunky…but they get lots od exersize….so lite diets would be helpful.
so the question is have u read any good books or web sites with some free recipes?
thanks in advance.
first off CS u asume to much and are a bit of a b*itch about it….i know what caused it..i know the crystals and the male urthea..i also know that u have to watch the ash content and Magnesium ect. for males. As MY FAT CAT has had infections..i know this my cats where on the right food…
CS SAID: Funny though, your willing to blame a food company, but not your own medical management of a cat that you have let become overweight and therefore unhealthy…wonder why that is?
…my cat was over weight well before i got him….and he has lost some because i cut back his food and diet food make him sick…or he won’t eat them wasted even money on the crap the pet food companies sale….and like i said Assuming makes ya look like an ASS.
Oh and what do u think our pets ate before the pet food company’s?!
oh and thanks electro….
oh my dogs are not over weight they are just a bit chunky… it winter here it been very cold (They are not out side dogs but they do play outside for about 3 hour though out the day plus i walk them for about an hour a day….before any one belames me for that to)and they seem to gain winter bulk. they are at 73 and 75 lbs they are rottie/ border collie and ‘u name it’ mixes. so i figure they are about 6-8 lbs over ….

I have 3 dogs and 2 cats.
Both cats are indoor/outdoor and hunt occasionally when out. I fee them Blue Buffalo Wilderness – Duck(Grain Free)
1 of my dogs is on Nature’s Recipe Grain Free Salmon, Pumpkin, and Sweet Potato
1 is on Blue Buffalo Large Breed Fish and Oatmeal
1 is on Blue Buffalo Puppy Lamb and Oatmeal
I know the main concern with switching to raw is that its grain free, but if my cats and 1 dog are already on grain free diets, is there really that much of a difference?
Also, I am very busy (law student & dog trainer), so I wouldn’t be able to feed them raw in the morning. My dogs eat twice a day and my cats eat sparingly. No one is overweight, but I was wondering if I can feed their kibble in the morning and raw at night, or would that throw them off?
Also, I know to feed them 2-3% of their body weight, but I have a 28lb corgi, a 100lb lab, and a 19lb corgi puppy. I can do the math, but I have yet to find recipes or examples besides just ingredients to give them. Anyone have any suggestions for exactly what to give at meals?
Also, I supplement my dogs with fish oil (omega 3 &6) every night, would I need to keep doing this if on raw? How much omega 3 &6 are in actual fish?
SORRY FOR ALL THE QUESTIONS!!! THANKS IN ADVANCE!!!
Hi there, I would like to switch to eating raw food because I hear that it makes you feel good and (obviously) healthier. BUT you also lose weight due to the lack of calories. I don’t want to lose weight because Im slim and have a hard time putting on weight as it is.
My question is: Is there a way to have a raw food diet but not lose weight (special recipes etc)
Thanks in advance.
I’ve been considering getting a pair of ferrets next year, and have been doing some research and have heard that they are obligate carnivores, and the ferret dry kibbly can cause them cancer.
Do any of you experienced ferret owners have any raw diet recipes you’d care to share?
Additionally, I have also heard they have some difficulty adjusting to new foods. How do I go about feeding them a varied raw diet, and ensure they won’t become picky and eat only one type of meat?
Thanks in advance!
**And feeding the ferret dry kibble can cause them cancer
@_@ This is what happens when I don’t sleep for 3 days…
So.. I know I’ve asked similar questions like this before. Don’t go spastic on me lol(:
Anyway, something I always forgot to mention in my previous questions was that my dog refuses to eat any raw meat. If I want her to eat it, it has to be cooked. I usually have to boil it.
Although I just don’t trust raw diets, I have tried them with no success. She just WON’T eat them. I’ve had so many people tell me on here to feed raw when my dog just refuses.
Plus I’m getting fed up with commercial dog food, which I have fed for years, and almost all my dogs have had some sort of health issue.
And, if I make sure to balance it and add supplements, would it be safe to use Raw or B.A.R.F. recipes and just substitute cooked instead?
I CAN feed raw bones, but last time I did, my dog almost got internal damage because they splintered, but fortunately no damage was done because she threw them up the same night. (They were sharp too because I accidentally stepped on one and cut my foot).
Thanks in Advance(:
I am going to be starting my huskies on a partial raw diet, and will be making it myself. I am buying my meat grinder Friday, and I already have the recipe I will start with. I am just looking for any tips or advice from those of you already making your own. What is your dog’s favorite, things you add in, etc.. Thanks in advance for any ideas and suggestions !
Added: I will not buy raw. I am going to be making it on my own for quality control reasons and because I have one with allergies.
Added:
Yep, gizzards and all. I am buying a commercial grinder, so i will be grindong the whole bird. I will also be feeding to my cats, and the heart is loaded with taurine, so I am doing the whole bird. I am also doing a venison batch.
Added: mechanic- One of my guys is very allergic to wheat. The only grains i am using are oatmeal and quinoa.
Added:froesaken- during transition they will be on a high protein/meat kibble. Also, grindong the whole bird guaratees optimal nutrition. if you read the back of a package, or talk to a manufacturer, they all grind the whole bird. DHA comes from the brain, Taurine from the heart, etc. And in the wild they eat all internal organs plus neck and bones. (dometicated dogs also don’t run 30 miles to catch and kill their prey, therefore you cannot compare nutritional requrements.)
Added: i will be using oatmeal and quinoa as grain for binders and to aid in digestion. Also, my dogs get plenty of natural ches and get their teeth brushed, so it is not a concern. And I’m looking for tips because it is new to me, but trust me when I say, I know what dogs can and cannot have.
Also, once you cook meat, you lose about 70% of the meat protein. Second, once you cook veggies, they lose almost all of their nutritional value.
PLEASE: If you are not giving advice on recipes, etc. I don;t want it. I am looking for tips, not someone to talk me out of it. Thanks.
hi :) i’m a seventeen year old female and i’ve been flirting with the idea of ‘going raw’ for quite some time now. i’d like to be a dietician, and i’m trying to be more personally health concious because i’m realizing the negative affect that the processed food i’m putting into my body is having. should i consult my doctor and let him know that i’m going raw?
also, are there any sites or books that contain a lot of information, as well as recipes?
anyone who’s gone raw- i’d appreciate some of your insight, stories and opinions on it.
thanks in advance! :)
Hi, my sister and I are considering going on an organic, mostly raw diet. We are not vegetarian, nor do we really care to be, but as far as meat goes we plan to eat mainly chicken and fish. We love most fruits and veggies, so this probably won’t be a huge problem for us.This is not to lose weight, but to be healthier and cleanse our bodies of preservatives. I was just wondering if anyone had some suggestions, and maybe recipe/meal ideas? We are fairly petite, so plans for the day should be no more than about 1500 calories. Also, we can’t have any foods from the nightshade family (potatoes, tomatoes, bell peppers, eggplant, and other kinds of peppers), so keep this in mind when suggesting recipes! Thanks in advance!
Oh, and the reason for no peppers, etc., is because we thought we had a bell pepper allergy, but it turns out that our bodies can’t digest the solanine (a toxin found in all of those vegetables that just passes through most people). So basically, eating those things has been poisoning us until we realized it.
I’m interested in the alkaline water kick. I’d like to start drinking Alkaline water without spending 00 on a filter, but I’m having a hard time understanding it the way people make it.
If lemon juice is @PH 2.3 how does it raise the PH of water that’s 7.0? I thought by "Alkaline water" we meant higher on the PH scale, but I’m starting to stray into the thought that what we are acually looking at is Alkalinity, the ability of the water to neutralize acid..
in either event, I’m still dead confused. I understand PH being acid or alkaline, and I understand Alkalinity mEq/l because I keep saltwater Reef tanks. so don’t be afraid to explain this to me.
thanks in advance!
I am a guy. Thanks, that link did nothing for me.
I am a 22 yr old male. 6’1, lean, but defined, 145 lbs. I’m looking to get bigger. I’m looking for suggestions or tips for a good routine, or how to modify my current one.
My arms need the most work. They are defined, but not big at all. I know I need to give them time to repair more than other areas, and that working the triceps more than the bicep is best for gaining mass.
For a little over a month now I have been doing:
Mon: Bench Press, Shrugs, Crunches
Tues: Rest
Wed: Rest
Thur: Dumbbell Curls, Triceps Extensions, Push-ups
Fri: Rest
Sat: Triceps Extensions, Bent Over Rows, Dumbbell Curls
Sun: Squats, Lunges
Every exercise is 3 sets of 6-8 reps with as much weight as I can handle with correct form.
Prior to the workout I have a protein drink (whey protein), and afterwards I have a good carb/veggie meal after every workout.
Should I just be patient, or is there a problem with this workout routine?
Please post only if you know what you are talking about.
Thanks in advance :)
i don’t have a lot of time to work out… so im looking for something very easy and fast yet vigorous and useful
also i am looking for healthy foods that i might try to loose weight, i live with my family and im only 13 so i cant make my mom buy all these special weight loss foods, just common foods to have for breakfast lunch and dinner and what is best to drink if i get sick of having boring water?
any other tips are appreciated thanks in advance -kayte
Just wanted some information on eating a raw food diet and how it can help your health and energy level as well as how it can be a preventative measure for disease.
Thanks in advance!
I’m in the process of changing my dog’s diet to include 1 meal per day that has raw meat. For example, tonight she had raw steak mixed with small portions of shredded raw spinich, carrot, broccoli, a few cooked green peas, some cottage cheese, and a few diced peaches. I vary the veggies and fruit depending on what we’re having, but the meat so far has always been steak. I plan to introduce raw salmon next week. She’s a chihuahua so cost isn’t a factor. So far, her allergies seem to have disappeared and she LOVES her evening meal with us. Her other meal is Orijen, a super premium dry food.
My question: I see so many comments from raw feeders who use primarily chicken. I worry about bacteria in raw chicken and pork. Do you feed chicken primarily because it costs less, or is there some fundamental reason dogs need it? There’s chicken (cooked) in her dry food, shouldn’t that be enough?
Thanks in advance, and don’t tell me that wolves eat dead rats, I don’t own a wolf. (lol)
Hi, I’ve been diagnosed with precancerous cells, which I will be getting removed, in the meantime and after I would like to take a natural path and get myself healthy, I don’t smoke, and i don’t think I’ll miss meat much… maybe lamb chops… :(
I’ve heard that the Raw Food diet would be beneficial for me…
Where do I start? anyone that’s on it? Any advice, recommendations? Anything will help!
thanks in advance.
I am currently on a meal plan to overcome a long battle with anorexia and for lunch i had 2 slices of veggie cheese on pita. My question is, i have to have one dairy a day because i am lactose and tolerant so does veggie cheese count as a dairy? and if it does, since i had 2 slices does it count for more than one? thanks in advance =]]
hi everyone.
I have exams next week. Its the year 11 exams so its pretty important and i want to do good in it. i really need lots of suggestions. First is what good food for clear mind and energy should i eat?
next any other tips for a good study method?
thanks in advance everyone
Im not looking for energy drinks or high drinks/foods with tons of caffeine.
I would like to know about food/drinks that are good for you and at the same time give you a lot of energy. ive been feeling really tired lately due to personal reason.. like stress and lack of sleep.
Thanks in advance =)
Please don’t tell me that i need to get sleep ect..i already know all that. Please just answer the question =)
Hi, I have a new outdoor cold water pond, and five fish have died in two days. :-( I just went & purchased a ph kit and it reads high alkaline (blue). What do you recommend we do? I’m really worried I’m going to wake up tomorrow morning to more dead little ones. I have a filter and air pump, with two ‘live’ aquarium plants.I have read various things about adding some sort of product to the water, but it appears this may not be the solution.
Do I change the water in the whole tank or do I do part change? Should I put the remaining fish into a fish ‘hospital’ with salt water and wait until I can balance the ph? Should I buy some distilled water and mix it with half tap water? Your best answers from experience would be great. Thanks in advance.
I’m curious – how much energy does 27 (for example) kg of gas give you? How can you figure this out? Is there a formula? And speaking of energy…if you happened to weigh, maybe, 60 kilos and ran for 30 min, how many kilos of apples would you have to eat to compensate for the energy you used?
Thanks in advance!
A.
This is a question for a test. We are expected to explain this in terms of the digestive system, circulatory system and respiratory system and however else we wish. Any answers? Thanks in advance.
I’m currently using Symmetry Botanacleanse. I’m on day two of the 11 day program, and for the last 2 days, I’ve had a mild, but ongoing headache. I haven’t taken any pain killers, as I’m afraid it may cause the Botanacleanse to become ineffective…thanks in advance for your help!!!
I’m an avid exerciser who does lots of weight training. I also find it challenging to get all my greens since I’m not really a very big fan of them.
I have been using Nature’s Plus Fruitein with green foods, but some time after I bought it, I noticed it contains bee pollen. So, since I don’t like to waste (and spent ), I decided to finish the container. Now that it’s just about gone I’m looking for a replacement product that does not contain any animal products. I like the idea of there being both greens and protein in one because I’m cheap and don’t want to buy two different things.
Anyone have any recommendations? Brands? Links are super cool. Thanks in advance all!
I’m starting a raw food diet on monday and I’ve read tons of articles and spoken to a fair few people that have a raw food diet but I was just wondering if someone who has been on the raw food diet or still eats just raw could give me an example of a typical days menu. Breakfast, lunch, dinner and maybe drinks and a snack or two. Just so I know I’m on the right track.
Thanks in advance
I have six dogs (ages 10 years,8 years,5 years,4 years,3.5 years, and 8 months). Five boys and one girl (don’t think that would matter for this, as well as the fact they’re all spayed and neutered). From oldest to youngest we have a Beagle/Basset mix, a Shepherd/Husky mix, a Lab/Golden Retriever mix, a Pit/Boxer mix, a Border Collie, and a Bloodhound/Ridgeback mix. I really want to start them on a raw food diet, but am not finding much on line about how to start, and recipes. I know there are a lot of raw food advocates on here and I was wondering where to begin.
Thanks in advance!!
Thanks, Shelter Puppies; I guess by recipe, I mostly meant how much meat to veggies kind of a thing :-) I should have chosen my wording better! Thanks again!
I am planning to exercise(walking and jogging) to lose weight this winter. I will be going to the grocery store either today or tomorrow for food. I shop for my boyfriend and I, since we live together. I would like a list of some low calorie foods for two people on a really tight budget(I’m a student and no job).
I always eat breakfast, lunch, and supper. My boyfriend usually skips breakfast and drinks coffee, he usually skips lunch as well, unless it’s the weekend and then he has all 3 meals.
Suppertime would be the meal that we generally eat together and so that meal needs to be hearty like a piece of chicken and veggies or something like that….
I can cook my own breakfast during the week, if I get up earlier. Also, I could have microwave meals or salads for lunch…
So, I’m looking for some foods to include on the grocery list, maybe even some meal ideas, and even some exercise tips would be great…..Thanks in advance. :)
I’m looking to lose 70lbs…..yeah I know it’s a big number but I’ve lost it before. I’m 5’8 female with what I consider a medium to large build. I’d like to get down to 150lbs. I feel that if I just lose 30-40lbs during the winter, that would give me the boost to lose the rest.
