Has anyone else had their dogs on this diet?
How did you transition them from kibble food to raw meat?
How much do I feed a 40 lb boxer, and a 60 lb pit bull
What are the pros and cons of this diet for your dogs?
I know threre are alot of questions, but I just want to make sure it is entirely healthy for them to eat raw food. These are my babies =)
Another thing, is it cheaper than kibble food and if not, what is the cheapest recipes you can recommend,

Purchase Fat Burning Diet

My 10-year-old has been put on a raw food diet by his physician. I know that it will be difficult to follow and I’m interested in finding as many recipes and resources as I can to make this transition as painless as possible for him. Any ideas? (i.e., books, websites, etc.)
Thank you Texan. I’ve been told that his diet will be vegan (except for kefir), though there are some concerns regarding that in light of his age and his chronic illness.

After doing some research on health & nutrition, I have decided to slowly transition myself off the standard American diet and my goal is to one day be 100% raw food vegan. I started the transition about a month ago and I am at about 80% raw and am trying to find recipes to make this a little more interesting. Do you have any recipes you would like to share?

Also, anyone out there has been a raw-food vegan for a long period of time, I would appreciate any tips/advice that you might have to offer from your experience.

Thanks!

I am not a spiritual person, but I was on a raw food for a diet a month or so and I regretfully got off. It was an amazing experience, the way I felt overall was great even my senses seemed heightened. I ask here because I figured some religious people might be into fasting or similar diets. My plan is to go on 30 days juice fast and transition into raw foods.

I’ve finally made the decision to give a 90% raw diet a chance. I don’t necessarily plan on doing it long term, my plan is to do it for 2 weeks. I have a potential meal plan set up from recipes I got from "Raw Food Detox Diet" and I’ll be going to the farmer’s market this weekend to stock up. :)

My biggest concern is that I’m in a pretty serious strength training program so I’m looking for anyone who has made a transition with regular strength training/exercises. The book has lots of good info but it’s not geared towards athletes. I will probably eat fish once or twice a week, other than that i will be flesh and lactose free. I do have a trainer and I’m going to consult with her but she isn’t that familiar with raw diets.

I just gave up gluten, and have been eating more cheese and ice cream as meals this last year while making the transition. Until income increases I have limited food choices and options. I rarely eat meat, maybe once a week at that, just don’t really like it, but eat it when I crave it. Since I don’t eat meat, and don’t eat fast food, how bad is my diet living on cheese and ice cream. Does dairy fat have the same cholesterol attack and build up as meat ? I am now reducing the fats and eating canned veggies until I can increase income and improve food selection.
Thanks Brian. I am getting messages about cholesterol, and figure God is warning me to watch it, plus my intake is getting me nervous.

Does anyone know a good way to transition into this? I also am a bit worried about serving him raw chicken due to salmonella. Can dogs get it? Any recipes that you suggest would be great too. Thank you in advance.

I’m thinking about switching my chihuahua to raw diet. She’s eating Royal Canin right now. I was also wondering, how do i exactly switch her diet? If i just feed her raw food, she’s only gonna eat that and not her kibbles. I’ll be putting in canned pumpkin into her food to help with the transition, but what else can i do?

Thanks

About three months ago, I began transitioning to the raw food diet. At first, I was strictly raw… I just kinda threw myself in there, and managed to upold it for about a month. Since then, I’ve kinda fallen off the wagon, though.

My biggest problem was being hungry all the time. At first, I was dealing just fine… It seems, though, that my body will plateau and fluctuate by 3 or 4 pounds (this is in general, not in the raw transition) and as soon as I start to dip below that, I feel insatiably hungry until I load up on food and go back up to my "regular" weight. I hit that plateau about two weeks after going raw, and managed to stay raw- although overindulging- for another few weeks before starting to re-suppliment my diet with cooked grains, ect.

I have had problems in the past with eating disorders. When I hit these plateaus and become ravenous all the time, I get very depressed. When I can keep my food intake steady, I manage ok, but when I start pigging out and eating everything in sight, I tend to "crash" and eat more because of these problems with food that I’ve had in the past.

The main reason that I started putting cooked food back into my diet was protein… I felt that a big reason that I was hungry all the time was because I was lacking it. (Has anyone heard about the Blood Type Diet? About a week ago I was doing some reading, and came across information on it… If the theories that it presents are correct, then as an O- protein should be a major part of my diet…)

Does anyone have any suggestions for moving past this initial phase of detox and getting back in the raw swing? I started taking a greens suppliment, to make sure that I was getting enough. I know that nuts have a good amount of protein, but sometimes they make me sick.

Are there any side-effects that I should expect from this detoxing phase, and anything that I can do to ease the transition?

I’m thinking about switching my pug to a raw food diet. Rather than starting a debate here, I was wondering if anyone could recommend a good book on switching to such a diet, what to serve, how to prepare it, how to transition from commercially available dog food, etc?

Also, about how much will it cost on a daily basis to feed such a diet, to a 20 pound pug?

Thank you.
