I have two Chihuahuas who are rather small for the breed. Because of this, I keep a close eye on their eating behaviors so that they maintain a good and healthy weight. Both of them seem to have lost an interest in their dog food (Innova Puppy), so I tried to switch them to another to see if they would like it better. Turns out that they don’t like it either. I am just worried that they are not eating and it will hurt them. They will pick up a piece of food and then spit it back out onto the floor.

My question is if I can create a diet for my dogs with human food, such as chicken, hamburger meat, veggies, and other healthy foods. I know that I could do raw and that is an excellent option, but I just don’t think that is for me. If I could do this option of healthy foods, does anyone have any recipes that could be made?

Thanks!

Purchase Fat Burning Diet

I was hoping to get an answer from someone who has experience in this. I have a couple questions about feeding raw foods to my puppy. Is it safe? Is it really better for her than the crappy commercial food like Science Diet and Why?? How do I get started? I read I have to make it balanced and complete, How? Should I be using some sort of vitamin supplements as well? Which meats, veggies and fruits are best? Which things should I NOT be feeding her( ex. onions) ? Is there anything else I should know before considering this? Can you recommend a good site with some sort of recipes or something? Thanks, A best answer will be awarded if there is one :)
I would talk to my vet, but she thinks science diet is best.. Its crap. It contains corn and soy meal, and barely any meat. Dogs have trouble with this because they cant digest it well. Making them appear full, but it is not healthy, I have researched brands that are supposed to be good for her but I have no way of getting them. I am on an army base in Germany and cant find a place that will ship the food to apo. So my options are feeding her brands like science diet, purina, and iams, Or making her food so I know its not crap.

Okay, I know the basics – eating raw food and not cooking veggies and fruit.

But I am a little curious as I have been vegan for a while and thought I might want to incorporate certain new things in.

I heard that as long one eats >50% raw food that it is more beneficial because the chemical makeup of cooked food is considered unstable and toxic for the body, any other benefits?
Also, does that >50% go by calories or volume or nutritional value?
Do raw foodists generally eat raw animal products? (ie. unpasteurized cheese and milk, raw eggs)

Thanks :)

We are going to my dad’s house for Thanksgiving and I am going to be in charge of cooking everything but the meat (that’s the man’s job for my dad and husband) :) There will be 9 people including my 3 year old. I have very limited experience cooking for a crowd so I would like some advice as to the amount of food I need. I am thinking a casserole type dish (green bean casserole or broccoli rice cheese) a veggie dish (maybe just a variety of steamed veggies) and a carb (mashed potatoes or stuffing). I want it to be balanced (mostly) and not have crazy amounts of left overs (just enough) :) Oh, then I will have a pecan pie (husband requested) and a cranberry-upside-down cake. Does this sound like the right amount of food for 9 ppl? Am I missing any key things? Do you have any tips for getting all the food done at the same time? :) Any advice welcome!

I see a lot of positive things sayin raw food diet.. but what’s wrong with just cooking some of your veggies? Like sweet potatoes.. or steaming some veggies? Is there something bad about cooking food? I don’t get it

I’m 12, turning 13 in August, and my eating habits are horrible. I’m not fat, and I don’t want to lose weight, but I do want to get healthy. :)

I don’t have breakfast, I don’t have a planned meal schedule and I often snack throughout the day.

So, tell me, what can a picky eater like myself eat for breakfast and lunch?

I really only like:
Tacos
Cookies
Milk Chocolate (Yum)
Cashew and Mushroom Chicken (But I hate Mushrooms)
Salmon
Broccoli Stalks (Dipped in ranch to mask the taste XD)
Grapes
Milk Chocolate Covered Cashews. XD
Grilled Cheese
Turkey Sandwiches
BUT, I’m willing to try new things. :)

I hate all vegetables and most fruit, but I do like Fruit and Veggie juice, which is made completely out of veggies and fruits. (No sugars added)

Exercise wise, I do crunches every night, because I’m unable to run up and down the stairs and whatnot due to Shin Splints. I had to quit dance for the year because of them. I’m going back next year, though, so I’ll get more exercise then. No exercise that involve putting pressure on my legs, please.

But, yeah, just kind of give me a rough diet/exercise plan.

Again, I’m NOT doing this to lose weight. I like how I look. I just really want to be healthier and able to run down the street without running out of breath. (Haha)

Of those who feed a BARF diet, what exactly do you feed them.?
I’m interested in examples of actual diets you give your dog.

I have friends that have their dogs on raw, but where I live they don’t have the meal packages or they’re way too expensive. So we are going to have to do this from scratch. (the veg and fruit part)

I’m not interested in somebody telling me about possibilities of salmonella poisoning, blah blah blah. Go to your local dog food factory and see how much salmonella you can find in the factory. And while you’re there ask why most of the food they make is not even absorbed or capable of being absorbed by the dog’s system – it’s filler and most is bad filler. It’s sickening! I’ve done my research, and I have made up my mind. I’ve seen results and heard of results.. dogs on their death bed switched to raw and turning 360s. Less vet visits, doctors asking what the flip the people have their dog on because they seem so healthy, etc.
thehamburgs@hotmail.com email us if you have any questions on BARF or are new to the idea.

Thank you to the poster regarding comment on knowing your source. So very true! :)

What i’m interested in – in specific – is the veggies and fruits. We’ll be feed majority of chicken back and turkey neck. But it’s all the other that doesn’t come pre-packaged that we will have to put together on our own. muscle meat, vegetables, fruits, oil, etc… the other 40% or "meal deal" portion that is.

I’m in the process of changing my dog’s diet to include 1 meal per day that has raw meat. For example, tonight she had raw steak mixed with small portions of shredded raw spinich, carrot, broccoli, a few cooked green peas, some cottage cheese, and a few diced peaches. I vary the veggies and fruit depending on what we’re having, but the meat so far has always been steak. I plan to introduce raw salmon next week. She’s a chihuahua so cost isn’t a factor. So far, her allergies seem to have disappeared and she LOVES her evening meal with us. Her other meal is Orijen, a super premium dry food.

My question: I see so many comments from raw feeders who use primarily chicken. I worry about bacteria in raw chicken and pork. Do you feed chicken primarily because it costs less, or is there some fundamental reason dogs need it? There’s chicken (cooked) in her dry food, shouldn’t that be enough?

Thanks in advance, and don’t tell me that wolves eat dead rats, I don’t own a wolf. (lol)

I started a new lifestyle on January 1st 09 which consisted of changing my eating habits and exercising regularly. Since then-I have lost 45 lbs but I still don’t have energy. I eat btwn 13-1500 calories a day. I don’t drink soda or coffee. May do fast food maybe once every 2 weeks in moderation. I exercise at least 5 days a week for about 90 minutes. But I often feel extra sluggish and lethargic. Could this be like a vitamin deficiency? I haven’t taken any weight loss supplements or pills ever. Should I implement something else into my diet. More protein? I eat a lot of leafy veggies and lean protein already.

Or could it be that I’m not getting enough calories? I eat 1300-1500 per day but then when I exercise I burn btwn 600-800 calories. So I net for the day- about 700 calories. Should my net calories actually be 1300-1500 even after the exercise? Please help-I hate feeling like this.

Helpful, non-sarcastic answers only. Thanks!
Additionally , I thought I’d add that I sometimes feel light-headed and dizzy.
Rocky-thank you. And I run my own clothing store. But I make sure to get at least 7 hrs of sleep everyday. And I do eat all three meals. Sometimes-I do have trouble fitting in breakfast and I’ll eat one of those protein meal replacement bars. Thanks for your help.

Right now i am eating over-easy eggs for breakfast (without toast), 1 special K bar fruit crisp for a snack, another fruit crisp for a snack a little later (A serving is a pack of 2) and then a salad with chicken and veggies for dinner… I saw results within the first 4 days.. i now weigh about 112 pounds, before i was 116.. I want to get down to 105 because im only 5’3". If i continue this i think i will be able to reach my goal weight.. But my Question Is: After this diet i am going to eat healthy all non processed foods.. i should only gain a couple pounds back right? And while off the diet just healthily living eating non processed foods, if i eat crap food once a week will it ruin my weight? I would probably have eggs for breakfast nachos for lunch, a normal dinner and then a starbucks coffee and cookie on the crap day once a week..
Thanks for the answer but yeah i thought 112 would be perfect too but im petite and im uncomfortable with my stomach area

So when you guys were sayin 2-3% of my dog’s ideal body weight what does that mean? and where would i buy organ meat and bone meat? thank you :)
Also i do know that dogs don’t need veggies and grains really and i am going to feed them based on a prey-model diet

My son (almost 2) seems to be going on a food strike. He has NEVER been a picky eater and usually eats anything I give him. He especially loves chicken breast and green beans.

All of a sudden over the last few weeks he’s become SUPER picky and only wants to eat carbs…pancakes or waffles fro breakfast, pasta for dinner, cheeze-it’s, rice cakes, animal crakers, grahm crackers…anything carbs. I can still get him to eat fruit, yogurt and cheese, but he won’t eat his normal chicken or any veggies.

Any tips? Any ideas how i can get him to eat "regular" foods again? I give him a multi-vitamin everyday, and have started to give him V-Fusion to help get him a LITTLE veggies…

HELP!!?!!
He eats potatoes…they are a carb and NOT considered a veggie.

Gluten free, sugar free, and soy free food recipes.?
Gluten free, sugar free, and soy free food recipes.?
No veggies that grow underground apart from garlic and onions.
So, no potatoes. No cow products. No rice (no rice flower or anything with rice). I can have wild salmon and meat/chicken occasionally.

My doctor put me on this whack diet because I have chronic lyme disease, and I got to be on the whole raw food diet, but a little more stricter.

If you are not going to answer the question please don’t leave rude comments.
I am seeing one of the top doctors, so she knows what she is talking about.

So, Any recipe ideas?
Websites?

Thanks.

I know this question is boring but i really REALLY need some new ideas. What healthy food do you feed your toddler? My son eats the same thing all the time. He likes pasta with tomatoes, chicken (rarely), fish sticks, ravioli, vegetable pizza, and grilled cheese. His two favorite veggies are green beans and carrots, but he eats those every single day. And of course he will eat any fruit you put in front of his face. He also likes cheddar cheese sticks. He has a pretty good variety for breakfast so I’m not really worried about that.

I just feel like i am feeding him the same thing all the time. I just need new healthy ideas that a toddler would like. He doesn’t really like meat, which is fine with me, i just wish i could find something to replace the main part of his meal. Help me ladies!!…or gentlemen if there are any Mr. Moms reading this…

Okay, so this is what I have laid out to eat tomorrow, and I’m going to stick to it. I know that the food quality isn’t that good, but it’s a h*ll of a lot better than what I had been doing before. I plan to keep in calorie range like this, and then work my way into more veggies and fruits, and only drinking plain old water. Right now I’m accostomed to taste that I’ve had my entire life, but if I can ease into it, then it won’t feel like such a big change. Understand? So don’t rag on me for the food choices. I’m looking at calories right now, and then within the next month, food quality, such as fiber, carbs, less sodium, ect.

Applesauce= 80
Sandwich(Cheese and wheat + french’s mustard)=290
mandarin orange=50
capri sun=60
lunchable=270
apple=80
veggie thin crackers=150
light string cheese=70
and then a sparkling water=0

I will be drinking tons of water throughout the day, and I have about 30mins of PE and then a vollyball game. I usually play at least one game, if not two.

I know that it’s not a lot, and compared to what I was eating it’s practically nothing, calorie wise, but I wan’t to make a difference. I’ve gone long enough being chubby. I’m 5’7" and 154lbs. I used to be 145lbs. My goal is 125-135lbs by the end of september 2010. That’s a lot, but I can do it if I have the will.
This amount of calories equal 1050(roughly), and if I eat a big breakfast, I get sick, so I ususally stick to applesauce or something and eat more in the afternoon, which might not be smart, but it’s what works.

im 14 yr old girl and i have put on a couple of pounds this winter because there has been no snow and theres really nothing to do outside. I cant go skiing or tobogonning and the ponds are not solid enough to skate on. Im not old enough for a gym membership and i havn’t take gym this semester in school so its hard for me to get excercise. Im not fat but im not fit so i don’t have any muscle.

Morning: bowl of Multigrain cheerios or oatmeal with a glass of orange juice and a peice of fruit.

Lunch: Half a water bottle, fruit, with whole grain veggie wrap or whole grain crackers.

afterschool snack: Veggies with water, or a granola bar with water.

Dinner: Salad, with a lean meat. or vegetable soup with whole grain bread (something along those lines, basically veggies, with some type of meat or grain product, and milk).

i plan to start walking home from school as often as i can because i live an hour away so its quite a workout. Also, i plan to start taking the stairs when i go up to my apartment building instead of the elevator and i live 8 floors up so i would be doing this about twice a day. Obviously in the summer i would get alot more excercise, i would be biking, swimming, running and hiking.

is this a fitness plan? too little or too many calories? I plan to cut out all refined sugars cuuz right now ive been eating alot of sweets.

i have a 9month old GSD and i wanted to put him on raw foods, but its just way too confusing for me. He weighs over 60lbs now, so how do i know how much to give him? does anyone have any recipes with exact measurements that i can use? (instead of 80% veggies, and 10% meat, 10% grains, as some people like to put it…. i want ozs, lbs, cups ect)
any helps would be great:) thanks
i feed him Canidea, and im pretty happy with it. But dogs have been eating raw food since the dawn off time, and i figure its probably the best thing for him at this point
thanks for the answers:) i’ll look into the group. for the person who asked about the specific breed food, im not sure either. :)

I am planning to exercise(walking and jogging) to lose weight this winter. I will be going to the grocery store either today or tomorrow for food. I shop for my boyfriend and I, since we live together. I would like a list of some low calorie foods for two people on a really tight budget(I’m a student and no job).

I always eat breakfast, lunch, and supper. My boyfriend usually skips breakfast and drinks coffee, he usually skips lunch as well, unless it’s the weekend and then he has all 3 meals.

Suppertime would be the meal that we generally eat together and so that meal needs to be hearty like a piece of chicken and veggies or something like that….

I can cook my own breakfast during the week, if I get up earlier. Also, I could have microwave meals or salads for lunch…

So, I’m looking for some foods to include on the grocery list, maybe even some meal ideas, and even some exercise tips would be great…..Thanks in advance. :)

I’m looking to lose 70lbs…..yeah I know it’s a big number but I’ve lost it before. I’m 5’8 female with what I consider a medium to large build. I’d like to get down to 150lbs. I feel that if I just lose 30-40lbs during the winter, that would give me the boost to lose the rest.
