Awesome! I can’t imagine going back. I have been veggie for 11 yrs, raw vegan for 9, and lowfat raw for about 4-5. Each of those progressions was an improvement.
But I particularly recommend the natural hygiene approach, which you can check out by looking thru livingnutrition.com This is a low-fat raw approach, which does not recommend herbs, spices, salt, or improper mixing of foods. I have found this to be terrific, and def an improvement mentally, physically, and spiritually.
I am 33 yrs old, in great shape, and thriving like never before on this diet. But you really do need to look at the trap of eating an excessively high fat diet when you go raw. Most raw fooders unknowingly increase their fat consumption beyond it’s already too-high level from before they went raw.
I strongly recommend reading anything by Doug Graham, and strongly recommend avoiding anything by David Wolfe. I tried David’s approach at first, then switched to Doug’s. What a difference!
If you want more, contact me. This is a lengthy subject. Good luck!
Edit- Just read Heather’s answer. Interesting. I started out eating the things she says she would include more…nuts, "superfoods", etc. I did that for about 4 years, and then switched over to all fruits and veggies for about the last 5. I found it to be in improvement in every way. Go figure. Just something to think about.
I don’t know what that hair loss was about with her. I would be curious to know more about that…like if she was using some kind of hair product that might have caused that, or maybe just the early detoxing doing an "out with the old, in with the new". It’s hard to imagine how eating fruits and veg could cause that. I have never heard of that with anyone else, and I have met several who do it.
I got very sick on it on a diet for a week but it works. I felt better than every, my body was detoxing and I had more energy. It was a test to see what was the rave in yahoo answers but I decided I wanted to be a flex-atrian.
LUV IT. Energy galore.I started back in May. I do a 85% Raw – 15% Cooked Vegan Diet most days. Some days 100%. I do my 1 cooked food dish usually in the evening.
My fav Uncook Book is Raw Foods Made Easy by Jennifer Cornbleet. Simply recipes that are very tasty, the book is very reasonable too about $15.00.
This life style can be as simple as huge fresh salads or as involved as "ice cream". I made a Raw Pecan Pie at Christmas that had everyone leaving the cooked desserts alone. Really.
I do fresh juice & do Green Smoothies almost every day. http://www.emaxhealth.com/14/1182.html
Slainté(to your health)
well i went cold turkey and the first week kinda sucked. you have detox symptoms and i threw up, i was tired, lethargic, nauseus. but it all goes away and you start to lose weight, feel happy, look at things differently, feel energized, appearance changes. the only bad thing that happened was i lost a TON of hair. but it was because i was eating just fruits and veggies…i didnt do it properly. i was forced back to a regular diet but if i would do it again i would make sure to eat more nuts, seeds, cold pressed oils, sprouted grains and superfoods. make sure you include those! but overall try it and you will love it! the cravings for "cooked" food will go away!
