Nothing to be honest. Amore??
I know the BARF term is out-dated, but this is the model I feed my dogs after. I’m sure you’ll get a different answer from every person that feeds raw, as nothing is an exact science…but raw is definitely the way to go. After feeding raw for 8 months, I will never feed kibble again. (Okay, never say never at the continuing rise in prices! But, it would definitely be my last option!)
I don’t get heavy into the vitamins and mineral supplementation, prefering instead to keep my dogs on a varied diet. I do supplement some with fish oil, Vit C and E, but not a lot. I do also feed a little bit of vegetables – something else you’ll find everyone has their own opinion of.
Good luck!
B.A.R.F You buy it from pet stores and pet supply shops.
There are a lot of good raw diets available for your dog. It’s just a matter of finding what works for your dog. If you’re looking for some good brands, I would say Nature’s Variety, Urban Carnivore, Top Hand, Arusha, etc. But it’s hard to say since I don’t know what’s available in your area. Just make sure you have the appropriate balance of meat, bone, organ and veggies (if your dog needs them). A lot of the time you can buy "full meal" or "dinners" which means that the food already has everything you need. Remember variety is good and so switch up the main protein and brands every once in a while.
You should do a bunch of research on raw feeding first. http://www.dogwise.com has the best selection of books. Look for those by Dr. Ian Billinghurst, Dr. Tom Lonsdale, Kymythy Schultze, Monica Segal, Wendy Volhard.
One I especially like is "RAW DOG FOOD: MAKE IT EASY FOR YOU AND YOUR DOG" by Carina Beth MacDonald
There are also some great websites. Or, you could buy a pre-made raw mix if you can afford that for such a large dog!
I do both premixed raw that I buy from an Oma’s distributor and raw muscle and organ meats that I buy from the grocery store with supplements and raw meaty bones from the hispanic market. Go to http://www.dogaware.com/dogfeeding.html for info. on premixes and preparing your own meals.
Go to Barnes and Noble and get this book. "Holistic Guide for a Healthy Dog" by Wendy Volhard and Kerry Brown, DVM. It has a raw diet in it and lists all the ingredients needed to be a balanced diet nutritionally.
