What to feed my 13 month old?
I would like some serious answers on what to feed my 13 month old. She only has two teeth so she cannot really chew well yet. She also gags on third foods with meat. I think its a texture thing.
She likes cereal, and super soft green beans, carrots, apples & pears. She likes noodles but she doesn’t swallow them she just cannot seem to gum them well enought yet, I have tried peas but she cannot chew through the skins, I have tried giving her finely cut up chicken, pork, ground beef and she just does not seem to chew them well enough, she will still have the pieces in her mouth a half an hour later and I get very concerned about her chocking because of it. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated!

GET gerber strained meats. BUT i make mashed potatoes. carrots mashed. My sisters baby likes broccli. we made veggie soup and we put it in a blender. THAT baby 12 months old went nuts. HE loved it so try that too.
you should puree anything you want her to eat until she has more teeth- and make sure she drinks plenty of milk.
hello how about breast feeding
"Oat bran fraction" (a cereal you have to cook) tested to see it has cooled to luke-warm, with POWDERED MILK added (plenty of protein with no sugar or fat) and sometimes some fruit that you’ve liquified in the blender.
GREAT food, dirty cheap, full of protein and fiber, and make sure you keep feeding her those green beans, carrots, apples and pears, too.
should still be on formula. Youre in the middle phase- you can keep on doing what your doing but you still have to make sure they are getting enough vitamins and protein. Since protein is meat and she gags, then get the formula and mix it with cereal or oatmeal.
Sounds like you’ve got quite a bit already. Sweet potatoes also. Cheeros for snack. Bananas
Third foods – is that a baby jarred food? You’d gag too if you tasted it.
It sounds like you are doing what you can, just because she is 18 mos doesn’t mean she has to eat what other 18 mos old do…..you could try ground up meat, maybe mixed with mashed potatoes. Nothing is wrong with keeping the softer baby foods around…….and lots of kids don’t chew well, but most don’t have an active gag reflex……I know one does though, and yeah, its a pain…..but all in good time
anything soft… soft breakfast bars crunched into pieces like the quaker ones….graham crackers… bananas of course… carrots are good… mashed potatoes… flavored foods..like mangoes cause of the juices…. macaroni and cheese cut up
fruits and veggies are good for her. If you are concerned that she might need meat too. buy the stage 2 meats(babyfood) and mix them with mashed potatoes. She would probably love this. lol my 13 month old has 6 teeth and 2 more are poppin through…all kids get their teeth at different ages..dont worry about it.
FOOD!
There is a really neat product called a baby safe feeder that you can get. It is like a pacifier with a little mesh bag on the end. You put the food in the bag and it screws into the handle part. The baby can gum to their heart’s content and no large pieces can come out to cause choking. The man who invented it almost lost his little one to choking and came up with this item.
I’m kind of having these same issues and my baby has 6 teeth…Mashed potatoes are a good choice…I still feed my baby infant cereal, so he can get extra iron…You may try putting some kind of liquid with the meat…like broth, gravy, or cream based soup…You may try making beans..Soak pinto or great northern beans overnight.Put them in the crockpot and cook them until they’re really soft. Mash them up and feed them to your daughter…Good luck…It’ll be easier when she gets more teeth in..
If you worry about her getting enough nutrients you can get drinks called ensure, and yes mashed potatoes are excellent, peanut butter is a good source of protein.
stage 2 gerber foods…soft stuff only
my kids at that age LOVED chicken noodle soup, chop the noodles small, simply swallow!!!
also they LOVE just noodles cooked in chicken broth,no chunks of chicken to chew or choke on,just teeny bits of noodle to swallow!
try the new gerber treats ,the veggie/fruit puffs, they literally melt in the mouth and are really good, yes Ive tasted LOL
the wagon wheels also disolve fast, the biscuits take a little more but are fairly safe! my children have loved them all! break cheerios in half, pain in the tush, yup but my kids loved them and they get so mushy they go down pretty easy!
boil baby carrots for a LONG time, like 30 min or more and leave whole, those are so soft and go down easy.good luck
Just give here GERBER FOOD or mashed boiled potato with mashed half boiled egg. You can osterize those food that you mentioned to help her digestive system. But you need to ask her pedia on what to feed. The ones you mentioned are not yet applicable at her stage.
Why not just go back to strained baby food? She must have protein and vegetables, not all starch. You don’t want her to be stunted in growth from not eating the right foods. It also affects their brain growth. Feed her a well balanced diet, whether you have to use a blender or food processor or jar of strained food. Good luck.
my son loved oatmeal. I also used to over cook things. To the point where no adult would ever eat it :) I would cook noodles till they were mushy so if he did swallow one it would just dissolve. Find some soft whole grain bread put a bit of jam on it. The juice in the jam makes the bread even softer, pull it into small bites. Frozen waffles. I would tear them apart in tiny squares. You should look at one of those mesh feeders. They sell them at any baby store. You can put super ripe fruits and veggies in them, but your baby can’t choke since she can only get a small amount through the mesh. Hope this helps a bit : )
Hello my baby is 11 months and i give her potatoes and vegetables mashed up really well with lots of milk she loves it. also try her with yoghurts over soft fruits like banana peaches etc.My baby also only has 2 teeth and so i give her apple and raw carrot etc and she scapes it against her teeth it gets them used to chewing. Try giving her sliced meat in bits in her hand also. i know its painstaking goodluck!
My son has NO teeth, he is 12 months we feed him crackers, mashed potatoes, mac n cheese, small bits of what we eat, cherios (dr recommended), toast, waffels and a few other things. Just make sure they are small pieces and you watch carefully. My son chews very well now but at first it was a bit nerve wracking. the dr recommended cherios and kix to help him learn to chew and swallow properly. Sebastian wont eat meats he just sucks on them for HOURS!
